As far as I'm aware and can check all models come with DRL's which are normal bulbs NOT LED's. There is an option to upgrade to LED's but not standard on uk cars.

Well if it doesn't come with them as standard and the bulbs are as easy to replace as jaapv says the Mitsubishi are taking the p**s with the 'accessory' price:

totally agree - good spot madddogs. Whilst pricey to supply (£287 supply only) they must be easy to fit as its only +£13 (£300) for supply and fit! So yes, the fitting must be v easy. Worth keeping an eye open or maybe a friendly chat to the dealer at service time....

If somebody (Cityboyblue?) can confirm for definite if they are or are not LED's on UK spec cars I know of a specialist firm that used to do a lot of business supplying LED upgrades for Discos for everything even down to the interior lights, so I can get in touch with them to see if they can supply us with replacements for the PHEV.

If the phev uses the same lamp and bulb as both drl and fog light then this could be by varying the voltage to get different levels of brightness. If this is the case then there might be an issue with replacing the standard bulb with an led as LEDs only work at the full 12v.

My car has regular halogens for DRL. There is another bulb for the fog light. There is an optional LED DRL from Mitsubishi that replaces the entire reflector. It gives you a LED circle for DRL and a fog light in the middle.

If the lamp has separate bulbs for drl and fog then it would seem possible to replace the drl bulb for a drl one at minimal cost. Just need to find out what type of bulb it is.

Others have tried to replace the DRL halogen bulb for a LED one and failed. Haven't tried myself though.

Having had a mooch around, found this interesting video. It's in Dutch but you can get the gist of it.

Not sure how much they are though, it may be cheaper to order the Mitsy ones.

It is not the bulb that is easy to be replaced but the whole unit. And just as easy to be pinched, unfortunately.

Given the price of the aftermarket ones, it seems the Mitsy ones are quite good value! I just think it's penny pinching not putting them on as original spec

Guess my dealer will be getting a call to negotiate a price!

So it seems we are stuck with the Mitsi replacements then. I agree with CBB - not fitting LED's, especially for DRL's which are permanently on, seems rather penny (or perhaps pound) pinching. Is it worth trying to arrange a group-buy?

Seems to be a few of us who aren't happy with them and as they are so easy to change most of us can probably do it ourselves. Hate to keep harking back to the Disco site but we used to get some good deals on there by using group-buys. I'm happy to talk to my dealer and see what he's willing to do if anyone who would be interested could indicate so on here perhaps? :D

Just rung the supplying dealer for my car and negotiated a price of £200 fully fitted for the LED running lights. I object to paying it, because I believe they should be standard fit, but I'm happy with the price in the circumstances.

Hi there,

I am one of those that tried replacing the existing DRL bulb with a LED "equivalent" (for details see here).

To be brief: it won't work, or rather: the light output is ridiculous.

I then tried a set of "Devil Eyes" LED DRL/foglights. 100% rubbish.

Since the end of May I have had these

on my PHEV.

They are OSRAM LEDriving FOG 101, and cost 237,22 EUR from Amazon.

They are almost plug&play (I did the installation in 1½ hours) and have a very distinctive boomerang-shaped DRL "signature" which is very visible without being overly aggressive.

The other day I crossed a Dutch-registered PHEV on the road. It had the Mitsubishi accessory DRL/foglights described earlier - not very impressive, I'm afraid. And of course a bit more expensive. But admittedly extremely quick and easy to install, as you can see in the video

I have had a bit of trouble finding a convenient connection for supplying + 12V on ignition in the fuse box under the hood - in fact, all unused connections seem OK in the first place, but about 10 minutes after you start charging the PHEV, the DRL's come on. Very funny, and essentially no problem if you have a closed and private garage, but if this is not the case you'll have people calling you in the middle of the night to tell you that you left the light on in your car  .

However, fuse #4 in the fuse box should be dedicated to the original DRL's so I'll soon have a go at connecting these DRL's to that fuse - maybe that'll work correctly.

The fog lights are OK, and the "bend lighting" feature is quite useful.

Thanks Krouebi, would be very interested in these. Could you please tell us a bit more about the installation? Do they fit inside the standard silver cowl? :D

Hi,

they are, as I wrote, 99% plug&play. If you just attach them to the existing mounting points, they will sit ± 5 mm further back than the original units, thus creating an unaesthetic gap between the lens ant he silver cowling. On my PHEV I remedied this very simply by putting some plastic washers behind the fitting hardware - the OEM screws still hold very well.

Once I get around to it  , I'll take a few photos and put them here.

That would be great thanks. And some day and night pics in both modes (DRL only & foglight) would be good too if possible :D

You say the Mitsubishi ones are not very impressive - are these brighter or just better aesthetically :?:
