Very disappointing

The fact that they explain the delay is "in order to meet a level of competitiveness that will exceed customer expectations in the United States" doesn't make much sense to me, given that there currently are ZERO competitors offering any plug-in SUV at a similar price point (at least to my knowledge).

Yes very disappointing that Mitsubishi has decided to delay once again the introduction of the PHEV to North America till the Summer of 2017 given the fact that many other Manufacturers have indicated that they will be introducing PHEV in 2017 and these include and are not limited to the Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Prius and Toyota Rav4, BMW and others from what I have been reading.

My Next Vehicle will be a PHEV and an SUV or Minivan. Was hoping for the Outlander PHEV but if Mitsubishi fails to have one available for North America when other Car Makers have them, I may have no choice but to look for a different Brand, sorry to say.

Do you have any links to details of a RAV4 PHEV in the works? I have not seen that mentioned anywhere. If released, that would seem like the only close competitor to the Outlander PHEV, in my view.

No Links yet no, sorry. Toyota Dealer mentioned that he was told by his district Manager that they would be available in the Summer of 2017.

Only link I have seen from my previous post and in the similar price range is for the Chrysler Pacifica.

I wish the BYD Tang SUV was available outside China.
Its around US$48,000 and has already sold 33,990 units through May 2016.
0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds
80 km (50 mi) all electric range.
Its a copy of the Outlander PHEV, but on steroids!

I don't think I'll get another PHEV. I'll stick with the Outlander until a 500km range SUV 4x4 BEV comes onto the market. That Skoda in the link says 300 mi (500 km) range and charges in 15 minutes!! We will see, time will tell.

From what I read the BYD Tang SUV PHEV sells slightly more cars than the Outlander PHEV worldwide.

Also, I assume they meant to say one engine and two electric motors (like the Outlander PHEV) in that article, rather than three engines...

Anyways, I agree, that BYD Tang sounds great and I wonder if they will every branch out into other markets (well, perhaps not due to patent issues), though I would worry a bit about quality control and reliability.
