2019 Volkswagen Passat GTE (not sold in North America) has now surpassed the Outlander with its 13 kWh drive battery and WLTP range of 55 km/34 miles (versus Outlander's 45 km/28 miles). Granted not an AWD SUV, but similar price and size: https://insideevs.com/new-2019-volkswagen-passat-gte-debuts

The upcoming Mitsubishi Engelberg, aka 2020 (or 2021) 2nd gen Outlander, will make its Geneva Show debut within the next days. Silhouette suggests less concept and more production ready:

Meanwhile, USA is still waiting for its nerfed new-old MY2019, and USA will probably get the above version 3 years from now

Macrumors (out of all sources) has verified that MY2019's are in USA and are currently being distributed to dealers: https://www.macrumors.com/review/2019-mitsubishi-outlander-phev-carplay

Availability should be sometime in March, pricing seems unchanged.

Update: looks like some USA dealers are already advertising MY2019: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=508167384&zip=12590&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D12590%26startYear%3D2019%26sortBy%3DderivedpriceASC%26incremental%3Dall%26engineCodes%3DEL%252CHYBRD%26firstRecord%3D0%26marketExtension%3Don%26endYear%3D2020%26modelCodeList%3DOUTLANDER%26makeCodeList%3DMIT%26searchRadius%3D0&startYear=2019&numRecords=25&firstRecord=0&endYear=2020&modelCodeList=OUTLANDER&makeCodeList=MIT&searchRadius=0&makeCode1=MIT&modelCode1=OUTLANDER&clickType=listing

So, gone are the days where the USA used to get everything before everyone else then ?

USA auto market is one of the largest (now overtaken by China), but probably the lowest margins anywhere. For example, where else can one get an Outlander PHEV for about US $29k? The flip side to that is manufacturers will generally limit choices to volume models and configurations, and for the relatively small volume Outlander PHEV, doesn't look like Mitsubishi cares too much for USA/CAN markets, especially as they can sell as much as they can build to higher-margin Europe.

This is for you!

Look like the Star War from Nissan Rogue influenced this...

Well we do get Teslas before almost everyone else. I could drive down to the factory after I get off work and pick one up right as it rolls off the assembly line if I wanted to. It's only a 10-15 minute drive from here.

You end up with some weird specs because of that. I had a Kia Forte hire car recently that had an 8 speed auto box, lane guidance and all the things that a cell phone using / jumbo soda drinking American driver needs, but the rear view mirror was not self dimming, it was the old 'manual flip' version! Bizarre.

I know what you mean. You should see the reactions I got when people got in my 2011 Ford Fiesta. They couldn't believe it didn't have grab handles (on the ceiling) and it had roll-up windows, something they've never seen before. I told them "I got it for $13k", where else in the world can one get a brand new Fiesta for that price.

Verified that USA MY2020 will *not* be getting the engine/battery upgrade, they will wait for the all-new model MY2021, which I hope they will not delay next year. They need an all-new, battery-upgraded model to compete against the new Ford Kuga/Escape plug-in, which will have a 14.4 kWh battery, and lo-and-behold, the VW ID4 (aka Crozz) is now rumored to overlap the Outlander PHEV's price range:

https://www.futurecar.com/3496/Volkswagen-ID-4-Might-Be-$24000-Less-Than-the-Tesla-Model-Y

Although the ID4's exterior size is smaller than the Outlander, because it rides on the MEB platform, the interior size will probably be comparable.

Didn't the MY2020 already start? I've had mine delivered at the 30th September. I actually ordered a MY2019 in May, they delivered a MY 2020 in September.

It's not so different from MY 2019, but it does have some nice improvements. A new infotainment system with larger screen (and built in sat nav, which the MY2019 didn't have) and new climate control panel are the most visible. Also Mitsubishi no longer fits a Rockford Fosgate sound system, instead a "Mitsubishi Power Sound System" is fitted. This new sound system sounds ok, but I can't compare with the Rockford Fosgate system I'm missing out on as I have never experienced that system.

Sounds kind of crazy that you don't get the engine/battery upgrade in the US. Building just one drive train in higher volumes should be cheaper shouldn't it? Hope you do get the other upgrades!

The lack of drive train upgrades in N. America is probably due to legal issues, rather than marketing strategy. I assume that the new ICE has not passed N. American emissions standards, just as most of the diesels available in Europe/Asia have not, and therefore are not sold here in Canada/USA.

Toyota just released the RAV4 Prime:

https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1126084_2021-toyota-rav4-prime-preview

0-60mph in 5.8s!

39 miles of EV range!

90 MPGe!

I will get one to my wife and Outlander is mine :)

In the US, Toyota RAV4 Prime should be MY2021 and available in summer 2020.

Tesla Model Y also would be available in the same time frame, I think.

It'll be a good electric SUV year in 2020: spring, Ford Kuga/Escape phev. Summer Toyota RAV4 phev/Tesla Y. Fall VW ID4. Winter all-new Outlander phev.

Guy at my dealer claimed new PHEV will have 100 mile range - I don't believe him

I don't either. At least a dozen USA dealers were saying on record (one was even quoted by an automotive publication) that they would receive the Euro/Japan updates for MY2019, and they were all wrong. Anyway, the Engelberg concept only had 43 miles of electric range, so to more than double that, would move the Outlander way outside its current price class, or Mitsubishi has discovered an electric breakthrough when it comes to cost/range. Either is highly unlikely.
