My wife was the driver at the time of the rock impact and she didn't inspect the car to see if coolant was leaking.

I can only repeat what the dealer advised me; for the PHEV ZM series, the cooling system is common for the ICE and traction battery - it's different to the previous gen PHEV.
I tried searching for a schematic or cooling diagram without success hence I can't provide any proof. Section 10-4 "ENGINE AND PLUG-IN HYBRID EV SYSTEM COOLING SYSTEM" of the user manual does allude to the fact it's a common system but it's not explicit.

Looks to me that the AC condenser radiator is a separate unit above the engine/battery radiator.

One of the first mod's I always do to any new motorbike I buy is to add a radiator guard (typically perforated metal/aluminium sheet). I think I'll add something to prevent this happening again.

For what it's worth, I couldn't fault the Mitsubishi Dealer's service and prompt repair.

@NewPHEVowner I hope you get your car repaired soon!

Hi Aussie Outlander PHEV team

I just picked up a brand new Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV EXCEED this morning on the Sunshine Coast. The sales rep advised he omitted to charge the car and he set the car up to drive home in the charge mode. I drove literally 200m down the road and an error message came up advising Warning - PHEV System Fault - Power Reduced - Service Required. I took it 200m back and their Mitsubishi Servicing Manager advised that the diagnostic report indicates that the error occurred because the battery had insufficient charge, and that it should be now ready to go again. I took it out again and a similar error occurred after 200m i.e. Warning - PHEV System Fault - Power Reduced - Stop Safely. I took it back again. I now have a loan car whilst the Dealer charges the vehicle and looks into the error further. Has anyone else had an experience like this? Should a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV be charged before a customers first use? What is a reasonable customer's expectation in this circumstance – they don’t seem at all concerned about the time/inconvenience to the customer. Thanks.
Hi, I have bought a 2024 outlander hybrid. In the last 2 months I have had this warning occur 3 X. The car will be fully charged, I have even driven it in charge mode to make sure the auxiliary battery is charged...Still occur. Twice it has occurred on the highway and we lost power....so unsafe! The Mitsubishi service shop just tells us there is nothing wrong with the vehicle and bring it in if it occurs again. We have 3 X in 2 months and they tell us the same thing. They do not know what is wrong. I now have a brand new vehicle that is unreliable. I am so frustrated. Any suggestions? Any one else having similar issues?

I’ve experienced the same issues as well. They don’t know how to duplicate the problem. I purchased a brand new plug-in hybrid Outlander in June 2023 and had to get it towed twice for the same issue in August and September. This year, it happened again in August and they had my car for two months without a loaner due to a waiting list. Ehen I picked it up last week. It happened again that same day. I am so tired of dealing with them.

I’ve had a similar event as well. It was about -21C, very early morning and the car was plugged in overnight and fully charged. The ICE started and about 1km out, the same system error message occurred and the CEL was illuminated. I ran on EV only mode for a short while intending to take it directly to the dealership then I decided to go to NORMAL mode. The ICE started once again and this time started to “gallop” i.e. the ICE would rev up then down repeatedly (cycle time about 2 seconds). The car drove smoothly however. Given this situation, I choose to drive to my office in EV mode (very close to the dealership) and wait for the service centre to open. An hour later, I drove in with the same message with the ICE operating the same way (galloping). When I arrived, the adviser took my information all the while insisting that they didn’t have time to handle this problem. I simply said that the message indicated and advised service therefore they should keep the car until they could resolve the issue. By the time the advisor completed the intake process and went to the car (it was parked in a warm drive bay), the message had disappeared however the CEL was still illuminated. They called me about 4 hours later saying they found a number of “cold weather” related faults but no other issues. They uploaded new software into the battery control unit saying all was resolved. The event has not repeated itself in the last 30 days. Perhaps it was a software glitch that was resolved with the update. The dealerships don’t seem to have a handle on this type of tech; years of ICE knowledge and weeks of EV knowledge. It seems that this vehicle is a black box to these techs. Has anyone else experienced the issue of the “galloping” engine?

Very weird indeed

If this happens again. Shut down tge car.

Remove the cover at the rear right side of the trunk.

Disconnect tge Negative for a few minutes then connect it back and tighten.

This hopefully will reset the Computer and correct tge problem.
