The dreaded turtle

Hello,

My phev had sat out last night at 2f and I remote started it this morning for 20 mins to it warm up.

It was not until 75 mins in to the drive (7f) that the turtle finally went away.

I called the dealer and the usual tough crap reply. Service guy did say their GMs wife had one and same thing happened.

I spoke to the dealership about the lack of battery heater. The GM told me that they have 5 PHEVs at work belong to various staff and each displayed the turtle this week.

He also told me that he did some checking and that Maine and Edmonton were the only two places that reported the issue.

He said he will escalate up Mitsubishi chain if it bricks.

The Lack of a Battery in the Battery Pack is a major issue.

As to being able to start the ICE remotely is something that Delearships are starting to do Service Updates to allow remote starting when the Temperature reaches -10'C or lower.

My 2024 is currently at my Dealership getting this done.

They need to order a couple of EC Units . I do not know much h more about this but they are also very aware of the Cold Weather issues with 2023 to 2025 Cars

I read somewhere that since 2024, the design of the Outlander excluded the battery warmer in order for it to boost the mileage one gets on EV.

I could be wrong... Just saying that I read it somewhere.

I could be wrong... Just saying that I read it somewhere.

I also wonder if it could be that the additional cost would have tipped the price on some trim levels over the cutoff point for government rebates. Sounds like it was a marketing/exec decision, not an engineering decision.
It should at least have been an optional accessory.

Next big test is soon it will sit out for a.week outside for a week. If it does not start its.going back to the dealer on a loader.

I, too, am in Winnipeg with a 2024 GT Premium PHEV. I am greatly interested in getting the ICE to start remotely. I bought at McVickars.

I left my car with Mitsubishi Waverley on Jan 22, 2025 to ha e it done

I pick it up on Feb 22 upon my return from Mexico.

Will advise all, on it's completion.

I wonder why people don’t use a small ceramic heater in the vehicle plugged in to an extension cord which is in turn plugged into a remotely controlled outlet. That way the heater could be turned on from inside the home and the car would be toasty warm when you get in. It would save fuel and save on the engine wear caused by idling and reduce air pollution.

A remote controlled outlet can be purchased from Amazon for $22 CAD. Here is an example with a remote that works for up to 100 feet. Some ceramic heaters have a built-in thermostat which would save electricity once the car interior heats up sufficiently. If the heater is kept in the car, it could be plugged into the car's AC outlet to provide heat while driving for EV mode and for those cases in which the ICE engine is used but takes time to warm up enough to provide heat.

This is of course a workaround. What I would really like to see is a traction battery heater and a built in electric heater that could turned on remotely or programmed to heat both the traction battery and the interior so that the traction battery is at an optimal temperature for driving and the interior is at the pre-set temperature. Both would work when the vehicle is plugged in for charging.

At tempslower than -12'C I plug in a 1500W Ceramic Hwater into the Invertor ug till the ICE starts rising.

This helps to warm up the Baterry Pack a bit but does little at Temps lower than -20'C

I always monitor the Battery Temp display on the dash
