Smoking brakes

Yesterday while driving to work, I noticed my car's brakes were smoking, and the car was hard to stop. I turned off some of the safety features, and it started working again. I'm not sure what happened. What could be the cause?

There have been issues with older models with the brake calipers sticking.

Particularly in regard to the emergency brake (if I'm recalling correctly).

Maybe the ASC (Automatic Stability Control) was doing its job. Was it raining?

I second the point about seized calipers. It's common for EVs to barely use the mechanical brakes, particularly the parking brake function as the transmission lock when you switch off does the same job, so the mechanisms can seize easily.

When I've not used mine for a few wet days there's a "clunk" as the front pads unstick from the rusty discs.
But never had jammed brakes
