Hi all,

Last week 2015 Gx4H was completely dead in the cold weather. So dead it wouldn't jump start, so bought a new 12V Auxillary battery. Car started immediately after the change. Since then however I've had a host of problems

- central locking temperamental, sometimes works fine, sometime I have to unlock with manual key
- drive battery charge failing (sometimes)
- radio and heaters not coming on automatically, almost like they reset each time i turn of the main engine.
- loss of backlighting on window/mirror control panel

Yet once I'm in the car and got it started seems to drive fine.

Anyone experienced something similar? Is there a setting which I need to change?
Any help gratefully received or even advice on who may be best to call to get help - regular mechanic, auto electrical specialist or EV specialist. Bristol based.

Cheers

Does sound strange.

First thing I would do is to test the Battery with a Voltmeter.

When Car is running the voltage at the 12V Battery should be from 13.6 to 14.2 V

With the car off and preferably tested at least 12 hours after the car has been off, the Battery Voltage should be from 12.6 to 13.2 volts.

With the car off, turn on Headlights, High Beams, 4 way Flashers.
Voltage should now be 12.0 to 12.6.

If all is good so far do one more test.

Without stepping on the brake pedal, start the Car. The dash lights should be on.but the Ready should not light up.

Again turn on the Headlights, the High Beams, 4 way flashers and HVAC fan on full.

Check the 12V Battery voltage now and should show 11.0 V to 11.6 V, anything lower, I would suspect a faulty battery and would have the Battery Load tested. Any Garange can do this, even Walmart or any other place that sells Car Batteries.

I would disconnect the 12 volt battery, wait two minutes, the reconnect it with a definite connect motion.

The computers may not have re-initiaised correctly when the new battery was installed.

"So dead it wouldn't jump start,"

Was the battery still attached to the car circuits ?

Components damaged due to an over-voltage charger ?
