I've searched the forum, but without finding the answer to this question.

Is there anyone who knows how to best hang a permanent charging cable in a carport? I have bought an extra 16A cable, that I will attach along a vertical beam in my carport. I want easy access to the cable, similar to a gasoline pump handle.

Thanks //Claes

Someone has already built something like this... using a Simple EVSE 1.0 mounted inside the vehicle.

I was thinking more of perhaps two rubberized J-hooks "in different directions" (one upside down) with some space inbetween, that jointly could work as a place holder for the cable handle. Or something different, as long as it isn't too complicated... :D

My wallbox cable hang system is like this:

Or something like: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/J1772-EVSE-Cord-Cable-Holder-Dock-Hanger-for-EV-Charging-Station-EV-Charger-/181551004903

I would coil cable round some sort of hanger then use a plug socket to hold plug like these :

My charger is in the garage with just enough cable through a slot I cut in the garage door frame to reach comfortably to the car which is reversed up to that corner.

When not in use I park the connector in a holder screwed to the wall as mentioned above. but don't pay a fortune to Nuworld etc. I got mine exactly the same direct from China, needs a little patience but delivered no problem for £9 free delivery.

I prefer the garden hose hanger solution. The socket screwed to the wall risks damaging the handle if someone falls against it or some kids hitting it with a football.
Plus it's way easier and faster to use.

Mine is protected by drain pipe alongside, it also keeps the rain, bugs out of the connector.

I think mine is far more vulnerable plugged in the car.

If the handle is horizontal when connected to the wall mounted socket water could theoretically collect in the connector/handle (the seal isn't water tight ).
When hanging over the garden hose hanger the connector is always facing downwards and it's impossible for it to collect water.
If you've got issues with bugs living in the connector you are not charging the car often enough :)

No problems so far. I do have a solution to help me charge more often. Someone further down my road has a PHEV with a nice long charging cable they coil around their charger. I am trying to work out what time they go to bed and what time they get up. In 'stealth mode' I could reverse onto their drive at night and switch their connector to my PHEV, just need to collect my car before they get up.

Very cheap running cost then.

I joke of course... ;)

Actually, of course, one could sneak up on anyone (ideally one's next door neighbour  ) who has an outdoor 13A socket and, with the aid of a long-ish extension reel, plug in late at night, as long as one remembers to unplug early the next morning....

In fact, BobEngineer, now I come to think of it, you're not the person up the road from me with a PHEV, are you  ?

The guy down the road has a white one like me, but not with my modified 'burn your retinas' LED DRL's!
