I have ordered my PHEV and am now working out the logistics of charging.

I will have a charge point installed at home and the opportunity (for now) to charge at work (as long as there is space). I am wondering whether I would need to though. If I fully charge at night at home and only drive 3 miles to work, would it even be worthwhile charging at work?

My home to work round trip is around 6-8 miles in total. I dont see me needing to charge everyday or is that unrealistic?

I believe that Mitsubishi advise against frequent small charge cycles in the interests of battery life. In the winter I plug up most days - even if I still have a fair amount of charge in the battery, but this is primarily to permit pre-heating the following morning. In the summer, I will not plug up if I have enough charge in the battery to cover my anticipated use the following day. Certainly don't plug up at the office if you have only done three miles since you left home.

I've read that as well. It is surprising, as in general Li-Ion batteries benefit from charging from partly discharged instead of running the battery down all the way and topping up to full.

Why not charge at work rather than at home, assuming you're not paying for the charging at work?

I did consider this but there are only about 8 spaces and my company have their own EV to charge. The agreement is I can use a spare spce if and when one is available. I also have to pay for the priviledge of access to the car park so Im weighing up whether i want to cancel the parking permit all together.

No it seems like you won't need to bother charging at work.

If your getting a GX4 It might be useful in the Winter months to be plugged in at work so you can activate pre-heating from your phone 20 minutes before going home for a cosy/defrosted drive home.

Where have you read that, guys ?

The manual says : "do not repeat charging near the full charge level"

So if you repeat charging between, say, 4 and 13 bars on the diagram, it will be perfect for the life of the Li-Ion battery !
Of course if it's not enough for your daily travel, just increase the interval : 3-13, 2-13, 1-13, 1-14, 1-15 ... and of course 1-16, but just if necessary.

And anyway, don't forget that full charge (16) is required every two weeks ;)

No need to plug it in for this. You can easily pre-heat 2x20 minutes and drive 6-8 miles without charging in between.
