I'm the new owner of a gently used PHEV. I picked Pearl up this week and she's already had a few trips around town.

If there was one piece of advice you'd give to a new PHEV owner what would that be?

My advice is usually along the lines of "Just get in and drive" although to be fair, it's other members who have coined that phrase.

I usually have half a tank of fuel or less in the car, and charge it up once per week. This really suits the reduced driving that I'm doing these days.

The car pretty much manages itself, with annual servicing from Mitsubishi, the only things I 'mess with' are adding water to the windscreen washer bottle, and air in the tyres.

The car's software will turn the engine on, when it needs to, or when you need some extra power, otherwise you're cruising around in peace and quiet.

Around the city and suburbs, I usually put the car into 'B5' using the paddles on the steering wheel, that maximises the amount the car uses the electric motors to slow down (regenerative braking) and gives an easier, almost one-pedal, driving experience.

The only complaint I've had from friends, is that the car is too quiet when you pull away. They've suggested (tongue in cheek) that I should have an electric bell that I 'ding' before heading off.

:D

Ding! Ding-ding! Whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Have fun.

Hi Jeanette. I've had a 2020 PHEV since late February and the one piece of advice I would give you is read the Forum posts. The Forum is very responsive and you should be able to solve most problems by asking here - but don't listen the same to everyone. Some are notoriously grumpy!

Congratulations on purchasing a great car.

I agree with what Andy has posted.

I on the other end prefer to (hyper mile) try to get as much milage that I can in EV mode. To do this, I drive in B-0 slowdown by using Left Hans Pedal behind Steering Wheel and then use foot brake pedal when I need to slow down faster and to stop.

Once I am ready to go again, tap on the right Hand Pedal to get back to B-0.

In time, you will find your on way as to whether you prefer to use B-5, Normal or B-0.

The most important thing is tgat you enjoy this great Vehicle.

If you are doing a long road trip try to stay at hotels that offer level 2 EV charging. Even if they don’t have that usually you can find an outlet to plug in your level 1 charger. I recently stayed at this hotel for a week and charged the car every night on an outlet I found by the pool. Did all of my driving that week in EV mode, no need for gas!!
