So i now own my first car that doesnt have an analog dashboard and its all very confusing. During a cold spel i brought in the 12v battery for a spell to warm up since the car wouldnt turn on(dash said half charge but after a start up attempt it dropped to empty) Turns out it was something simpler and not an issue, just me living in the last century.

However, when reconnecting the battery the big red plastic covered thing that bolts onto the regular connector it made a honking sound. And now any time i depress the brake or use my turn signal it makes that honking from the back of the car.... I searched the forum for an answer but any thread talking of strange noises seems to mention very different sounds, this isnt mechanical, it sounds like a tiny car horn going off in the trunk.

It didnt do this before.

Its from 2014

Very strange indeed.

You stated that tgd original problem was something simple and not the battery.

Can you please elaborate on what the original problem was?

trying to start the car with the charger plugged in i got every single error message imaginable and the ICE wouldnt start, display took ages to start up. Warmed up the 12v as i would do on my old diesel. Display came on as normal but still error messages and no ICE (also locked out of shifting gear) unplugged the charger and voila car started as normal. Since then same thing, car wont start with charger plugged in but starts fine of charged and unplugged.

No idea if that is normal, i just got it and my only knowledge is of old volvo diesels

The honking is likely the reversing audio alert if your car has that fitted. Is it possible you've crushed or snagged a cable in the boot area when you removed and refitted the battery?

You'd only expect that to come on with the reversing light, normally, so worth checking (or getting someone else to) if that Is coming on when you hit the brake or turn signal. Perhaps a canbus reset will be needed.

would that sound like a muted horn? basically the same sound as the main horn but softer. it goes toooot when i brake and toot toot toot when using the turn signal. It also seems to randomly turn on and off. Il check for the cables but nothing should have been moved, i was careful to leave everything as it was. I noticed it made the honking sound as well when putting that second connector with the red plastic cap back on.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will not allow starting the vehicle with the Charging Cable plugged in.

yea that turned out to be the original issue, hence no need to even warm up the 12v, was a dumb thing done from old diesel logic. I know now so no issue there, the issue is that since reconnecting the battery it makes that honking noise on braking and turning

Disconnect the Cable clamp from Negative Battery Terminal. Leave off for one minute and attach again.

See if the horn keeps honking at you.

If it does, check to see that both brake lights illuminate when brake pedal is pressed and turn signal lights come on when the turn signal is activated.

Sounds like the horn circuit relay is energizing when rear lights come on.

Might be a faulty fuse, but not certain yet.
