Anyone else with a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander experiencing major struggles getting the car into neutral? 😤

Had an incredibly frustrating experience at the car wash yesterday where I could not, for the life of me, shift the car into neutral! It took forever and caused unnecessary stress — not exactly the kind of thing you want when you're just trying to get a quick wash.

I’ve noticed the gear shift mechanism feels really stiff and uncooperative, especially when trying to switch to neutral. Am I the only one dealing with this? Seems like something that should be easier for such a modern car! 😬

Anyone have any tips or suggestions? Or is this just how it is with the 2023 Outlander? It’s honestly so annoying.

I have a 2024 and to get to Neutral from D/O I just push up the lever. Moves to Neutral smoothly

Oh yes, the neutral panic at the car wash. Been there more than once. I just checked again because it's not intuitive. On my year you have to go to REVERSE first and then NEUTRAL is straight down from there. What's even more complicated is that the shift display next to the shifter has an arrow pointing to the left for neutral, but it's not left it's down. But don't go directly from DRIVE down to NEUTRAL position. In that schematic the 2nd position won't be neutral but B3, an engaging of regenerative breaking. Ridunkulous.

On the 2020 model just push the P (Park) button, It goes straight to N and the car is running and parkd at the same time. To drive off just release the brake,
Presumably they want neutral as the car will be moved along by the car wash. Being in Park is not going to be conducive to that.

On a 2016 it's as simple as just pushing the selector to the right for a second.

Perhaps you should have read the manual before driving it

Yes - when we needed to get the car onto a towing flatbed. Even more frustrating than an inability to get to neutral easily: the complication, opacity and poor wording of the manual. Like so much of the manual, my recollection is that the instructions were hard to find, poorly indexed, and terse. And to find the instruction I had to wade through much lawyer-speak designed to protect Mitsubishi rather than help an owner.

Not what you want when you're under pressure in a car-park, dealing with a faulty car.

My 2023 is also pretty balky about easily going into neutral. Slowly and gently seems to do the trick. hard and fast just goes into Drive.
