I'm seriously considering the GX4h but I can't quite get my head around the proposed ULEZ for London in 2020. Does anyone know if the PHEV will still be exempt at 44g/km? There's a graphic on the TfL consultation that suggest 40 is the "legal limit" but I've no idea what that means as it isn't clear. Anyone?

Interestingly, it seems that most plans for 2020 revolve around the Euro 6 standard for emissions.

See here - "http://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/ULEZ%20scrutiny%20briefing%20–%20February%202014.pdf"

In which case you should be OK in a PHEV, as though it states it meets Euro 5, it also meets Euro 6.

See here for Euro 6 standards for passenger vehicles:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_emission_standards#Emission_standards_for_passenger_cars

And here for some stats on the relevant emissions for the PHEV (best I could find)

Actually, further reading shows that they are looking at the Euro 4 standard for petrol vehicles (Euro 6 for diesel), as they are focusing on NO2 emissions.

In this case the PHEV is more than OK, in fact:

TFL said:
The following vehicles will meet the ULEZ standards in 2020.

Where the fuel type is petrol or LPG:
Cars and small vans up to and including 14 years old; and

Large vans and minibuses up to and including 13 years old.

Thanks for unravelling that Beejay! You're right, it does appear to meet Euro 6 emissions. Definitely London futureproof in that respect.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what might happen with better battery technology? Would you simply be able to upgrade the batteries in a few years to ones that achieve higher mileage? Surely the car wouldn't be left out in the cold if newer and better came along? Or....?!
