Hello. I have a problem at work with my business mileage fuel claim.

There isn't a charge point at work so all the electric I use is from my house.

When I do business miles my company pay me back the petrol cost for the business share. This is usually done by all the fuel receipts being added up and then the total cost proportioned evenly between my private and business miles. Eg if I did 50 private miles and 50 business miles and the total receipts were £10. I'd get £5 back off the company.

So throw in that I've paid for petrol and electric too how do I get my electric money back? What do other people do?

Thanks a lot

This is how I used to make my mileage claims until about 5 years ago. My company now makes us claim back at the HMRC rate for a company funded car. This is currently 13 p/mile for an up to 2 litre petrol or petrol/hybrid. You do have to check the rate regularly although it is only supposed to be changed every quarter.
There are plusses and minuses to this. When fuel prices come down it can be a plus but when the fuel price goes up and it is the start of a quarter it is a disadvantage.
You are supposed to be able to enter the unit cost for electricity and the car will then display the cost of electricity used but how you then get proof of this to make an expenses claim I do not know.

Check out the info on the HMRC approved rates pages. They state that electric miles are claimed at the same rate as petrol miles. Also, using their approved rates is the only way to avoid P11D issues in future.

Have you asked your company (their decision) or is this your own company (your decision)?

But having said this are we talking about a significant sum? As you only get 25 miles out of a charge then surely most of your miles on business are on petrol anyway, unless you have either a very short trip to work or do little actual business mileage.

One option would be to only use the ICE for business miles.

the advisory fuel charge went down to 10p for a PHEV from 1st June, due to lower fuel costs. glad my employer doesnt check too often.

Engine size Petrol - amount per mile LPG - amount per mile
1400cc or less 10 pence 7 pence
1401cc to 2000cc 13 pence 9 pence
Over 2000cc 20 pence 13 pence
