I wanted to share that I had the fairly common issue of almost zero heat in the cabin even at 29c and that I fixed it

Theories suggested either the 4 way valve or the metal gauze filter. In my case it was the gauze filter.

You can do it without taking the air box off too it's already easily accessible.

I think I used 5 tools in total - hose clamper to squeeze heater matrix inlet hose, vice grips to get hose clamp off metal pipe where filter lives, flat blade screwdriver to help prise off the rubber hose and 2 spanners for the bleed valve 17mm and 12mm

I could see the filter was clogged once I got it out, and I luckily bought an ultrasonic cleaner in Aldi yesterday for £15..... I washed the filterr thoroughly under the tap where some gunk came out of it and put in the Aldi cleaner for 10 mins with some hot soapy water, and it collected probably over 1000 grains of casting sand from the block inside the filter that you couldn't see, looked good as new afterwards. Refitted and now it's so hot in the cabin you can't keep your hands in front of the vents it's really epic and easy to do too, especially given -5 here in the UK right now.

If you have a similar issue definitely check the filter yourself it's probably a half hour job all done.

Just worth leaving the bleed valve open slightly while the engine first runs to get the air out, don't forget that step

(y) Thanks for sharing. Do know if there is such a filter on every model years? If not, what is your model year?
My model year is 2014/15 late Mark 3 . From the research I have seen I think if you have a metal heater matrix pipe with bleed valve which I had, then the filter is within the rubber hose which the metal pipe connects too, as I understand it I think for mk4 cars it's contained within the 4 way thermostat housing, but I didn't really research that as it didn't apply to me
