Not a problem for EVs - they don't have an engine to be started.

But, if you are correct about the effect of a "bad cell", then the absence of an ICE makes no difference to its lack of motion - although perhaps lighter to push! 🤣

The only thing I can say about my Outlander so far is that it is the best car I have ever owned. And that also includes various new Mercedes, various GM, Stellantis, VW.

It is MJ 2017, 85.000 kilometers. The only defects it had in all these years is one of the ultrasonic sensors occasionally failing and the hitch control box failed due to moisture. I don't account that to Mitsubishi however because the hitch was fitted by a garage and they did not follow the installation instructions with the control box.

However, when I bought the car I already calculated in that I might have to replace the drive pack once - which is why I gave the car extra rust proofing to still have a good chassis if I install a new traction pack after 10 years.

The only other car which I would also label 'best car' is the BMW 530 Diesel Station Wagon my company owns.
This reminds me of an old saying(?) about sales of the cars. Many long time ago from the book.

"The best sales man of your car is in your next door who owns the same car."

This sentence dissolves quite a few realistic and mental basics. The neighbor who owns a car knows much about his/her car in realistic point of view. And as they use the car, they are accustomed to think it positively, even though they found some inconvenience or out of tech or out of fashion. Also the neighbor expresses the pride of self decision to own the car. And try to explain why his/her decision is valuable, which is mental part of our brain.

For my opinion that the ultrasonic failure, it will be an important issue if he knows before he buy the car. Front ultrasonic sensor is a major component to control the car driving. It will drop the car value seriously. But you are accustomed to stay as it is. Control box shouldn't be affected by the moisture. I have similar issue with power lift gate. I do not know the reason yet. Maybe same to you.

Even though I own the 2022 outlander PHEV, I would not recommend this car for new buyer. Mitsubishi has high rate of sensor failure than other cars. Make the matter worse, repair should be done at Mitsubishi Service Center, who is robing out money. But most of the Outlander owners are getting accustomed to ignore minor failure if the car is running on the street without big issues. I mean really big issues, with positive mentality only because he is currently owned it.

In addition to the reliability of the car, it is too heavy car compare to its capacity(means less fuel efficiency in its category). Other heavy cars have their own character but it is not luxury as Lexus, not reliable as Toyota and Honda, not advances technology and modern style as Kia and Hyundai, not easy to repair like American car, have to wait for parts for 6 months, not cheap repair cost since it is not repairable at neighbor garage, and not having a price competitiveness.

Underneath rust is easy to be seen on American Cars. But it has gone for long time ago. In recent days cars does not need any additional chemicals for rest preventing. Some Japanese Cars have serious rust issue about 20 years ago and last for a decade because they use Japan Steel compony products and it has serious defect of composing failure in steel making. The Cars used this company product showed serious rust but underbody spray is shading business in these days. It is only commercial. If Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has rust issue, they might use Japan steel Co. product. It might be the demerit of resale value. Spraying cost must be paid by manufacturer. The painting technology has been improved seriously.

The best BMW car is M340i. The resale value is going up when I resell it. I do not know Diesel but I paid for used M340i about US$21k but after 2 years of use, I sold it US$26k. If the resale value is low, it means "Not to buy". I bought Lexus SC430 for US$8k and sold it US$8.5k after 2 years. I paid Lexus CT200h for 8500 and trade in as 8500. No price change even though it is old car. No rust, no value drop, no sensor failure, no rattling, no noise, no problem and every garage can repair if there is some failure with cheap Prius parts within a few hours.

This is personal disappointment after I bought Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. I believe there are many people who loves and satisfied with the quality of this car. I also try to find good reason to own this car but I need some time to be null to minor disappointments. Apology to everybody for being negative.

Too bad if you bought the car and now don't like it.

I had a lot of cars. Crappy cars like the VW Caddy. Good cars like the Chrysler 300C. Very good cars like a 18 year old Mitsubishi Sigma Station Wagon (it paved to road for Mitsubishi in general) and very good cars like the Outlander.

If a car is crap, I will tell it is.

The failing ultrasonic sensor in the rear bumper is really nothing. Can easily be diy replaced and costs around 20€. So?

And, regarding the trailer lights controller - maybe you did not understand my post. I don't speak English natively. It was fitted by a garage, not by Mitsubishi. And they installed it in a way that condensation would collect inside the unit. It is not even a Mitsubishi part so Mitsubishi is not to blame.

I did rust protection on many cars I owned. Even if I did not benefit from it. I am an engineer and I hate neglected gear.

Sooo, if you hate your car, may I suggest you buy 5l of gasoline and a lighter? Problem solved.

I am sorry that I didn't follow up correctly regarding your sensor and Trailer light controller. I didn't recognized about compalints of which are written in this forum before I buy this car. My car has no major defects yet. The reason why I don't like is that so many other owner are complaining about Service Center and verity of issues. So, I am worrying if I have such problem in the futrue. Actually, car trouble itself is not the main concern. More concern is how conveniently fix it. I am not an engineer. Therefore, if the car shows problem, I have to go to the service center. Luckly, when the cause of the problem diagnosed properly, there are many more steps to be followed. That is the quality of Service Center. My service center is 90km away. I found that near by garages are not capable to diagnose properly, according to the forum. They do not have equipments to diagnose. Waiting for the parts for several months, delivery from Japan. And so on. This kind of information drives me unhappy. Someone who has not experience such trouble, never understand how much important it is if repair can be done without any hassles.
I do not take your suggestion. I also can not follow up the meaning of 5l gasoline and a lighter means. If you mean by this to look down on me, you are really bad tempered guy. There are many people who do not like MItsubishi itself or Outlander PHEV. They don't buy this car. The sales record shows that. Also, I have never seen the article that best car of the year or best car of the buget or best car of the SUV or best resale value of the car, ETC. Still some people buy this car. I don't think they are stupid or something, because they have their own reason to buy. Somebody loves it and sombody hates it. So, I express my own opinion and then if you look down on my opinion by saying garbage word, it is same that you are saying to all people who buy this car are no brainer, or VISE VERSA.

Be nice to be personal opinion, whether you agree or not.

The five litres of gas were just an ironic suggestion how to get rid of your car if you hate it. It (obiously) was not a real suggestion to set it on fire.

In my area, that saying is common place: if you dont like something, the it can still give you heat. My apologize to use that saying in an international forum where it may be misunderstood.

May I suggest you just drive and enjoy? It may not be the most up to date or the most luxury car, but is of general good quality.

You read about problems in internet forums? Surprise... Technical issues in a technical forum.

I also can not confirm the Outi uses a lot of gas. It is still a hybrid and takes advantage of the hybrid system even if the battery is empty. It is definitely not a gas guzzler. If the daily commute is more than 20 miles I would have probably bought something else (full electric BEV), but for the occasional lon distance run it is a good car.

I am currently in Italy, 800km from home. Of course I went in the Outlander and had a fuel consumption of 7-8l/100km. If I go steady 160km/h (which is very very rarely doable) the consumption is 13l/100km. To my impression, these values are really okay, considering the size of the car.

I am sorry for not understanding your idiomatic expression. It is good to know that you are enjoying your car very much. I believe most the of the car owner are in similar experience. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. I might be brainwashed by many other cars or my previous car as CT200H. Old car but most luxury and no issues at all, easy to be repaired at any local garage, 6.25 liter/100km, practically total on my driving. It is solely on my personal experience. I am still having a trouble of very very very minor inconvenient from this car. This was my first complaint in this forum. The unlock switch in in the handle, in far right side. I though that this has keyless entry function, I just approach to the door and pull out the handle. It did not worked. So I pressed unlock button on the key fob. Then it unlocked. It is very natural situation to most of the people, but for me, it was not. Because I have been brainwashed by other previous cars which has been more than 15-20 years old cars. They sound beep and unlock the car as soon as I pull out handle without any press of anything. Still I have a habit to pull out the handle without thinking this is Mitsubishi and Mitsubishi instantly remind me this is not the most common in these day's tech applied car, such as touch sensor is not available. I haven't completed how to open lift gate in some situation. It only works under certain procedure completed as User Manual described. But when I go shopping Walmart for Pick Up Service, it did not work as I wish. I might miss some condition to work lift gate, but I still do not know what I miss. If I followed the steps as in user manual, it is working but why it is not working when I try to open it for the Walmart helper to load my order. I have to kill the car and get out and use remote for him. Strange!!

I bought this car with lack of knowledge of this car. This is my fault. Even though it is because of my fault, it becomes my hate point of this car. My journey is less then a 20miles a day or less. So, at first thought, I don't have to buy gasoline for a year, because all driving range will be covered by EV distance. Maybe once a year to Service center, which is 90 km away, will need a gasoline. But I found I have to refill 20 liter to prevent the warning in dashboard, say "you are using contaminated gasoline". So I posted this in this forum about this situation and someone advised to mix with stabilizer. And then other one says, it is not related with gas quality but it counts the used quantity amount after I fill up the tank for three months. Mitsubishi believes that gasoline life will be end before 3 months in a tank. As a conclusion, PHEV is no way to save gasoline in my case. I have to consume 20 liter of gasoline every 3 months disregarding actual necessity. With CT200h, I fill up the tank approximately 8 months period with 11 gallons.(40liters)

Lots of people concerns of Gas Mileage. Even thou we concerns about gas mileage when buying a car, they start to concerns about their car gas mileage and try to drive the car to minimize the excessive consuming. F-150 owners do the same. They do not change the car because of gas mileage, but they are careful not to consume excessively. You cannot say to F-150 owners "Buy lighter car if you want to save gas". So Saving Gas is more commonly spread concept disregarding what kind of car they have. Same to Outland PHEV owners. They are digging out the source if there is any way to save gas, because there are so many choices of driving selection. That's why this forum exists. We want more correct information about the car and functions.

I lost chance of fuel saving, inconvenient functions, unfamiliar functions, inconvenient service center location, old design and never been improved for 10 years, and bad experience from service center technician on my head unit, bad story of parts supply heard from service center, etc. Nothing is on my side after I bought this car. This kind of experience has never been in my personal car history. How it happens so fast in a so short time. It is my destiny, bad luck, maybe!!!!.

Disregarding all these, I will live on general good quality. However, it will take some time to erase brainwash.

Good luck to you.

Hi I'm I missing something here my 2015 phev has a 12v battery for engine starting and if that goes flat you can jump start it, I know this because I had to last year after fitting a dashcam that drained the battery, I used one of them jump starter battery packs and it worked like a charm. My 2015 phev has 107,000 on the clock, I have owned it for nearly 3 years without fault (touch wood) the internal battery has lost about 14% but for me that's not a problem as my commute to work is only a short 7mile journey, It has been perfect, much cheaper to run than my last car a 2007 jeep grand cherokee 3l diesel. It is the perfect car if you do short journeys, I love it.
