On my Outlander GH4 PHEV I will use my 3 pin plug travel charging cable to charge when I am at my caravan on an outside double socket I installed. Holiday Park are bringing in site rules to ban this.
Can someone tell me how much current/amps I would be drawing to charge. I think I am reading literature that it is about 15A.
Never had any issues with breaker tripping and the cable from fuse box is never hot suggesting to much current. I will have a look at breaker rating next time I am there but wondering how much a standard ring main current limit would be and are they correct to ban this?

I'm guessing you are in the UK since you mention ring mains?

Here that would be using a 32A fuse/breaker in a house installation or perhaps a 10/20A so you'd need to check the caravan/mobile home to verify. Accordingly, UK plugs are fused to max 13A so that'd be the upper limit on current drawn at a single appliance. That said this would only be for the first half of the charge cycle (you'll notice that the cable gets hot but in the latter charge phase it cools) and I think the draw is more in the 10A region.

As for the ban, did they give reasons?

I wonder if it comes down to:
  1. safety relating to trailing cables - their liability potentially.
  2. electrical safety - their infrastructure capability, age of cabling, PAT testing.
  3. Presence of an outdoor socket? Are they banning its use for that but would be OK if you were using an indoor one?
  4. fear of the dreaded EV spontaneous combustion?
