Just for fun ... if the Outlander software was remapped to remove the top speed limiter, does anyone in the know have an estimate on the top speed that could be achieved?

Assumptions:

  • Fully charged battery
  • Removal of max current limits on the electric motors
  • Only needs to do one run, don't care if the battery / engine is knackered
  • Engine either running as a generator or the rev limiter removed
  • Eco mode off

Exactly the same, as the top speed is limited by the maximum revs of the ICE. At top speed the car will always run in parallel mode.

So if we took off the revlimiter, allowed hundreds of kW's into the leccy motors, surely a few hundred miles an hour would be possible, at least for a minute or so before self-destructing?

Oh, assuming the main fuses are removed and a jolly thick bit of copper used instead

Take out the ICE
Add and additional 200V battery pack in series to the on board battery
Remap or replace the eMotor controllers

And you are ready to fly over 250km/h ... until the motors or battery will smoke
