We have a 2024 PHEV with 3000kms . The system warning came up and we had it towed to the dealership. Upon investigation , they discovered that we had a rodent problem , we now know it was a squirrel, from the droppings . Anyway, the car is going to be in the shop for a little while. Has anyone else encountered rodents and what is the solution to avoid this issue from happening again . Thanks

Hi

When I had my 2018 PHEV I also experienced Squirrel problem in that a couple of them started building a nest under the hood.

Only that I got rid of them was to buy some apples, place the in thd fridge and every few days cut a couple into quarters and poke some pellets of Rat Poison into the pieces and lay them near the nests.after a month or so, in the fall I saw no signs of the squirrels.

To try to prevent anymore going into my hood area, I cut up some chicken wire and placed the pieces in area to prevent anymore invasion.

As a safe guard, i did lay rat poison pellets whereever there were valleys under tge hood area.

I did trade in the 2018 for a 2022 in Sep 2022, but never had any visits from squirrels.

Then in Apr 2024 I received current 2024 and am happy to report that I have yet to see any sighs of squirrels.

I did notice fewer brown squirrels in my area as a few bigger Grey's have moved into the trees across the street.

I will keep monitoring as I check the hood area every 1 month or so.

Good luck with your Car Invaders

On my 2019 I did but some screening over the air intake. This intake was under the hood and a nice, direct path into the engine air filter and (as I recall ... can't check since the car was totaled) into the passenger compartment air filter.

I ended up putting some bait under the hood using duct tape and I set up a couple of rat traps in the car port. Got one lovely squirrel.

For people with this kind of problem, I always recommend Honda Rodent Tape.

It's treated with capsacin, the hot ingredient from chillies, and rodents really don't like it.

Once you've repaired any damaged cables, wrap them in that stuff and they won't be back.

:)
