I am all for maximum privacy, anything I sign on to I put the absolute minimum information in. I have a VPN connection to every where, except the few sights that won't let me sign on if I do, so I have to disconnect for them.

So now I am wondering why a lot of subscribers on this site don't at least put the country they are in, in their account settings. I feel that this may help reduce the messages asking what country your in and also may get more people to to try and help them.

Just a thought.

It's a good thought.

Similarly the model year in either the question or 'signature' of the user.

Country and model year are probably the top two most important pieces of information.
Oh Yes Andy, Model Year, especially when wanting parts for a lot cheaper than the main dealers where available.

Would it be possible to generate a list that members could look at for parts that are available from other sources than Mitsubishi dealers, reading the forum some parts are better quality than Mitsubishi as well as cheaper. I think it would probably need to be sorted by Year and include country, would also give members an idea of what parts are failing most, so they could then check them regularly if necessary.

I wouldn't mind drafting a spreadsheet to get it going, then expect members to come up with idea's to improve it. Not sure I could keep it going, it would depend on the work load it created?

I always just put the nearest major city as location. And car model and year are important.
Another Forum I belong to has the same issue. I feel that posting members should properly introduce themselves initially ... it's only polite and respectful.

I just don't interact with other posters that don't introduce themselves and say approximately where they are. I think, possibly, they may all be ex-MI5 or MI6 agents. Or maybe just too lazy to fill in the info.

Btw, I also run a VPN on all our devices 100% of the time. For most of the sites that don't allow it, I turn it of to sign on, then turn it back on again.
Cheers,
Dave
(Oh crap, now they know my name too!)

I'm not sure how knowing what country I live in would affect this topic. On the other hand if I was asking for recommendation for a local garage, only knowing the country I live in would not be specific enough.

Rather than have a one off location somewhere in my profile, it would be far better for an individual post to include relevant information at the time a question or answer is given.

Finally, I can neither confirm or deny my involvement with MI5.
