Noticed this morning when stuck in traffic and in Charge mode the onboard charger began to rev very high. I have never had it do this before in the 5 years of ownership. Not the engine itself but the charger. Anyone else experienced this? This was at standstill, not the engine itself.

The Generator is driven by the ICE to charge the battery and supply power to the front and rear electric motors. The higher the demand the higher the ICE will rev to drive the generator.
Generator Charges the Battery which in turn drives the EV Motors which drive the wheels

On Charge and High Speed the rear electric motor is disabled and the Motor turns the Front wheels via the Clutch or 1 speed CVT

Yes the greater the demand the greater the Generator output but there should not be any Vibration.

Vibration occurs when items are loose and rubs against another item. Might be a damaged Mount or a Bushing.

These are the parts of the original post that I'm struggling with:

"the onboard charger began to rev very high"

"Not the engine itself but the charger."

I want to know what the thing is, that is revving high, that isn't the engine.

The post doesn't make sense according to what we know about the car.

The onboard generator (engine) ie the self charge button over revs the engine when activated.
Never had this before, usually quite quiet. Revs really high. Turn the charge button off, engine drops to idle. This is with a half full battery. Only began doing this the past few days. I have used this option lots of times in the past and its always been quiet and unobtrusive. Its like its going to explode now!

Its due a service so will inform them when I book it in.
