The new RAC05 dash cam comes with lots of additional features as well as speed camera database. The cost is GBP149. Specifications below and available from next week.
A premium dash cam with road safety features
The RAC05 Dash Cam is a premium in car camera that is packed with features to help you drive safely on our busy roads. The RAC05 uses the Ambarella AL750 chip to power the built-in features of the dash cam. These include GPS, speed camera alerts, and advanced driver safety functions. Built-in microphone records sound in the cabin, and the speaker and 2.7” TFT screen allows you to play video through the camera. You can mute the microphone at any time with the touch of a button. An 8 GB memory card is supplied so you can use the camera straight out of the box, and you can replace this with a card up to 64 GB if you wish.
GPS Tracking
The built-in GPS system tracks you journey and records speed and location. You can use the mapping software to display your journey on Google Maps.
Safety Camera Database
Using GPS, the camera alerts you to an approaching safety camera and displays the distance, speed limit and your current speed.
Super HD recording
The RAC05 records in Super HD video quality to ensure every detail of the road, including registration numbers, are clearly visible when you play back the video.
Forward Collision Warning
The camera monitors the distance of the vehicle in front, if you get to close an alert sounds to warn you.
Lane Diversion Warning
Clever software monitors the white lines on the road, and if a slow drift over the line is detected a warning will sound.
Over Speed Alarm
If the driver goes over a pre-set speed limit then an alarm will sound.
2.7” TFT Screen
The larger screen is perfect for reviewing video on the move. You can set the screen to stay on all the time, or to turn off after a few minutes to minimise driver distraction.
How does the RAC 05 work?
The RAC05 records video onto a micro SD card, which is fitted into a slot on the camera.
The amount of video stored depends on the size of SD card being used – the RAC05 can support SD cards with a capacity up to 64 GB. As a guide, when recording in amazing Super HD, 5 minutes of video used about 1 GB of space on the SD card.
The RAC 05 records in segments, the length of which is pre-set to 3 minutes, but can be adjusted using the simple menu functions of the camera.
When the SD card is full, the RAC operates as a loop recording system, and will overwrite the oldest recording and continue without the need to erase or download any data.
