I know this discussion keeps coming up but for my 2019 Phev, I'm looking what are the best ( most flush, secure etc) roof bars out there. The steel bars seem cheaper but I guess will weigh more.
So has anyone gone for any listed below or maybe suggest any alternatives?

Options In the UK

Mitsubishi Roof Carrier

Mitsubishi Bike Carrier, Silver steel type

Thule wing bar Evo 127

I would never consider bikes on the roof, it has to be a towbar rack for me. No way do i want to lift bikes up that high, and at some point you will forget they are there and drive into a height restriction barrier. Not to mention the extra wind drag that they create.

We got some Thule bars and carriers on one of our cars many years ago. The good thing with the Thule system is that you can keep the bars and mountings, and just buy new feet to fit whatever car you buy next. So we've since bought new feet and fitted them to several other cars. We've driven thousands of miles across Europe with bikes on the roof and never had a problem, except that toll booths notice the extra height and think you're a truck - it sometimes puts the ticket out of a higher slot :roll:

Yes, the things you mention also worry me. I believe fitting towbar rack may mean cutting into the rear bumber which I was trying to avoid. If this is not the case then I am open to the towbar option.

Thanks I will look at the Thule option as well as option to replace the feet per car model. I did spot the mitsubishi roofbars in may local dealership, yesterday when I took my Phev for its servce.

I understand that the Mitsu roof bars are rebranded Thule but whether the current ones are still the earlier Wingspan 969 or the replacement Evo 127, I don't know. I bought the Mitsu ones in 2015 and have been happy with them - apart from when Longleat monkeys stole the rubber inserts (loud whistle at speed now) :lol:

If you fit the Witter CL114 towbar, there's no bumper cut required.

It was the cheapest way that I could carry 4 bicycles, but it can difficult to get access to the boot.

My setup was;
Brand new Witter CL114 £59 delivered
Brand new Genuine Mitsubishi 7 pin wiring kit: SP042004 (Actually manufactured by Right Connections: MT14907) £25.00 delivered
Used Witter ZX88 cycle carrier
4' light board £15

No bumper cutout required for Witter detachable swan neck towbar.
