This morning my wife admonished me (yet again) for not checking pockets before adding clothes to the washing pile.

Then she handed me my PHEV fob.

It was still dripping wet after having clanked it's way through the wash cycle before being rescued.

Before so much as dabbing it dry, I pointed it at the car and ... Yeah! It worked without faltering.

Phew!

Any ideas for further tests of Mitsu's design and manufacturing reliability? 🤔🤣

Surely wives go through the pockets of husband's clothes before washing looking for spare change and incriminating notes from our girlfriends! 🤣

Doesn't have to be a PHEV fob it could be any of the newer models on the market. Even you car keys could end up in the wash the only difference they will be clean AND usable.

The other guys on this post have sense of humor! Nice! Unfortunately, I don't have any English Humor expression, since I am using a different language as native language. And also, I have not raised in such a humorous society. Learning English still is top hard thing to do, Getting ages, it become more difficult to level up. I have to read sentences at least couple of times to translate to my language in brain and then understand it. I was enjoying while reading those articles even thou it took more time.

Usually, moisture or water in electronic circuit conduct a electric to wrong circuit and this cause a malfunctions. General electric circuit has resistance from unexpected a small flow, so if we can dry it in a short time, it will be ok. But this will not applied to very sensitive equipment which handle millivolts and milliamps. Drying quick is very important. - No sense of humor.

The last line in the main post, you want to hear about further tests of Mitsu's design and manufacturing reliability.
Whatever I describe them with in my best English capability, it is only limited to my personal experience. Don't think it as normal concept. Just like you personally soak Key fob in the washer with neglect of pocket checking.

I bought my 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV less than 2 months ago. The mileage 45k miles. A little high mile but the price 16K. Very competitive to other manufacturers models in the similar category in the same year. As soon as I purchased this car, I found that Service Center is 60 miles away. I can take it this situation, since I already registered car under my name. Hoping no troubles to visit Service Center. However, I have to visit Service Center for infotainment display issue with some noise from under hood. They say infotainment system out of warranty already. It is 3 years and 36k miles. It is not covered by bumper to bumper like others. So, I asked repair service. They say no. There is no Part in USA. And cost is US$1,800. I have to wait for 6 months to get the head unit. It was a big shock. I was looking for other Service center but none around my area except this place.

I came back to home and it was happened before I joined this forum. I searched internet and found it is known issue of Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV newer model. And I found how to fix this on You tube video. I bought digitizer for this model from Amazon for US$14 and finished repair in 30 minutes. Bad impression on Service center for no location around me and no details of failure information. I learned that they do not have parts in stock nor parts dealer. They have to order to Japan even though it is known failure and wait for 6 months to be delivered. This means if you have trouble on major expensive parts, you have to park your car at Mitsubishi Parking Lot until Japan dispatch parts, warranty or not.

General design is out of date. Mine is 22 year model but there no wows at all. Feel like American Old car with some feeling of leather on it. Not ergonomic, nor convenient. One ridiculous location is Park button. Mine is not be seen with normal sitting position and my finger needs some exercise to reach there. Lots of free space in the center console. Why it has free space. It should be the space any kind of convenience, like charging area, iPhone pocket, other convenient switches. They have no intension to catch up modern design. How dare to design it as it is!. One of the worst is the infotainment. It does nothing unlike other modern infotainment. We cannot call it infotainment. It is just lousy design display with known failure.

So, I joined this forum to hear what other say about. I was guided naturally(not intentionally) the selection of the driving choice. What is the best way to drive most effectively among "Natural', "Eco", "Save" and "Charge". So, I dig out Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV drive selection characters and why peoples are confused with the selections.

From the forum, I've learned that I have to use at least 20 liter for 3 months max, otherwise, warning message will come up. It is the signal of "Bad gas quality in Tank" you have to fill up to avoid this warning. My daily driving distance is less than 20 miles. If there is no special driving, I don't have to fill the tank since I will plug in during the night time for next day. This hope became a foam of the beach wave. I have to run this car without charging for a certain miles to consume 20liters during 3 months. I might run whole year without charge at home. So this makes me dig Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV technically.

I found that lots of people do not understand right mechanism of Hybrid. I wonder why they choose this car. So, I explained it. And lots of people do not have right concept of PHEV character, neither. So, I explained why PHEV is expensive than HEV and ICE cars. And most of arguments are how to drive with fuel efficiency. It is important to know how to save gas in Hybrid car before you start talking fuel efficiency. Make the story simple, use battery when stop the car to maintain 12v system. Use electric motor to start car. This is main mechanism of Hybrid. Nothing else. Re-gen is side effect but no significant advantage unless when driving significant downhill. All others just a kind of improved accessory technical aspect.

If you fully understand these basic, selecting among "Natural', "Eco", "Save" and "Charge" is an extra accessory function of PHEV for it's own purpose, not for saving gas. All best selecting mode is never better in gas mileage than slow start and maintain regular speed all over the world, in any kind of car. It is the law of Movement in universe. Eco can affect gas mileage a little bit by limiting acceleration and by limiting use of battery. Still it cannot give you a gold bar. "Save" do NOTHING at all for saving gas. It is one function of the main battery control. Just makes you feel comfortable since you can see a battery bar in dashboard. And keep battery as it is so that you can use later when needed. We should understand that even though there is no battery bar in dashboard, it still have enough battery level to run as Hybrid with full function. "Charge" is preparation activity. After charge is completed, it should be "Save"d. (If I am wrong, please correct me) Otherwise, car changes to EV mode and then use saved battery immediately. The reason to "Charge" is charged battery will be used for high power occasion such as extreme uphill with trailer. In such road condition and heavy load, Hybrid itself is a little bit weak. So, previous charged and saved battery will be use to maximize total torque for such a special occasion. Charge and save is only for this purpose. Running generator to charge battery in "Charge" mode will consume more gas then EV distance. So, make it bad gas mileage a little bit.

Now we understand each functions. When you go uphill with trailer or want to speed up for pride or passing a car in speedway, you have to prepare battery charged enough prior to you enter into this situation. "Prior to" is important concept. If you do not select before this situation, no works. You need some time to charge the battery if you know this road condition. Because EV has first priority to be used when driving. "Charge" and "Save" work like that.

The next issue I found hear is V2L. I failed to get proper information. Australian guy has good source for V2H, but the cost is same as solar back up. I found some Korean cars are ready for V2L without any additional cost, while Outlander PHEV GT model has 120 v outlet, which is US$6k for option. But only couple of guys showed their interest.

Not in this forum. generally this car has slightly high chance of sensor failure. Since sensor is not Mitsubishi direct item, I cannot blame this to Mitsubishi, but some of them just live it as it is because the car is still running. I just want that it should be easy to be fixed with lots of part reservoir with Service man at handy, which is week point of Mitsubishi. When I search the Public printed magazine, it is hard to find "Best reliable" car of the year. If it is reliable, it should be one of the those meaningless comparison at least once in a while. I owned lots of cars in the mean time, and usually I found good thing while I own it. If I am not considering the modern style, I would like to buy the same manufacturer car, but not to this car. As time goes by, I have to build up my spiritual strength to endure the dissatisfaction.

Once happened is happened. I can't resell it because I will lose a big money. Impatience is the best way to save money. I am sure that my next car is not from Mitsubishi, absolutely. This is MY conclusion. I do not urge to others for same feeling at all. I am very much sorry for the other Mitsubishi Outlander Owner who is 100% satisfied with their car. I wish I could be one of them.
