Hello to all.
Took delivery of my Orient Red GX4HS this week and have to say I absolutely love it. As a company car driver my previous Volvo XC60 was costing a fortune in tax and with my mileage at less than 8000 miles per annum consisting of journeys of no more than 8 miles one way I reckoned I was probably a prime contender for a PHEV. I test drove the old 2014 model, liked it ok and then did the sums. Over 3 years with 100% allowances for Corporation Tax, the massive BIK savings and the grant I will save £33,000 +. Order was placed back in July but decided to wait until October for the new model and am so glad I did. Interior quality is much improved, the exterior colour suits the car really well, and there's even some bling on the interior door panels - just what every gal wants!. Phone now connected via the APP so I'm looking forward to a nice warm car to start the week tomorrow morning. Just a couple of questions that I can't find answers too:-

1. I plug into a tethered charging unit each evening but sometimes don't use the car at all over a weekend. Is it OK to leave plugged in until Monday morning.

2. When the heater is preset to come on to warm the car up before use, where does the power come from to heat up the car - the auxillary battery, the drive battery or via the tethered charger that at that time would still be connected.

Thanks for any replies, appreciated.

It sounds like a beauty... enjoy.

1. yes its fine to leave plugged in, when the battery is charged the charger shuts off and that is that until you use the car.

2. Primarily the drive battery, whilst out and about if you have some charge left in the car you can even remotely warm up or defrost it without the car being plugged in.

The heating takes about 4kw and the portable supplied charger charges at 2.1kw so if preheating half will come from the charger, half from the battery. I often do a 20 minute warm up and it doesn't seem to lose too much, left a little while longer it soon recovers to full again.

If you have a tethered charger at 16A then its supplying about 3.6kw so almost covers the 4kw heating meaning only a little battery usage and the charger will replace it very soon after the preheat finishes.
