Thought id share my recent experience with the the dreaded EV System Service Required message that popped up after fast charging using a CHAdeMO fast charger hoping it helps someone with the same issue.
I have a 2016 GX4h PHEV which i purchased last month, i charged it at Hopwood services on the way home on a fast charger and it charged fine with no issues, 20 minutes 80%
A few days later i decided to fast charge at a local CHAdeMO fast charger, when i returned to the car, the charge had stopped and the dreaded EV system service warning message was on the dash board.
Fortunately the car still started and drove, although appeared to be in some sort of Eco mode, I had very poor power when putting my foot down, it took FOREVER to get to 70mph and had lost access to the cruise control. the car still charged on my home 3 pin plug charger absolutlye fine.
After plugging in my own personal OBD scanner the scanner showed no fault and didn't clear the EV message,
I tried several local garages and even their more advanced OBD scanners didn't find a fault nor could they clear the message and reset the car.
I later found a local hybrid and EV specialist but even their plug in computers couldn't find a fault or clear the message.
I disconnected the 12V battery for 20 minutes on a couple of occasions but to no avail.
My last option was to call the main dealer, I booked in my local Mitsubishi dealer in Plymouth, they couldn't see me for 2 weeks as they were so busy and warned me of a £132 charge just to book in!!
The day finally arrived, I took an hour off work and when I arrived at the dealership to drop my keys off it was then that they decided to tell me they couldn't help me with hybrid or EV fault codes and i had to book in with the Exeter branch which was a 45 minute drive away, (I told them when i booked the car in of the issue)
After phoning the Exeter dealership and spoke to a technician he was confident they could help, I dropped the car off a week later and they managed to clear the code, reset the system and again found no fault. they did also charge their minimum charge of £132!!! shocking really for 10 minutes work, but very happy to get full function of the car back.
Lessons learnt here is I will never use a fast charger again and stick to charging at home,
Also whenever that dreaded EV system service message appears again in the future my only option seems to be to drive 45 minutes to a main dealer and pay £132 to reset it which to me is an absolute joke and a £0 tax electric hybrid suddenly doesn't seem to be the big money saver it appears to be.
I hope this experience helps anyone else facing the same issue and would welcome any advice from experienced members on here regarding the subject.
I do love the car its very well spec'd and seems to be everything I need as a family car but just doesn't make sense to keep it in the long run if paying £132 to a main dealer every time the system needs resetting, there must be an easier cheaper way!
thanks
Ian
