I was doing some testing and drove slowly turning the AVAS on and off. I can't seem to hear a difference. I am driving with the windows down and my ear almost outside. I can hear a slight whine of the electric motor, but it does not seem to increase or decrease with pushing the button on and off. What is your experience?
Feedback would be great, thanks.

It is indeed not easily noticed from inside the car. But you should be able to hear the "Battlestar Galactica" sound.

Once you get used to what it sounds like you can hear it easily, try doing the same test while in a multi storey car park.

I can hear it with windows closed/aircon on. It's very clear to pedestrians, even at 1mph.

If you're going over a certain speed it cuts off.

Maybe yours is broken

You don't say whether your car is owned from new, or second hand. If the latter, the previous owner may have disabled the AVAS. It's controlled by a small box behind the glovebox. It's a few minutes work to unplug it. There's a thread on here somewhere about it.

I'd like to second the comment about high-rise car parks.

It's pretty much the only time I hear mine.

If you just creep the car along the AVAS doesn't trigger. It fires up as soon as you touch the accelerator pedal.

I think it turns off again once you get up to about 60 km/h
