    Battery Charge/Save Buttons

While I (think that I) see the point you are trying to make, people are interested in the cost of owning cars, especially these ones with vastly more options than a plain ICE. But I'm disagreeing with your earlier statement that it uses more fuel to use CHRG - it doesn't for the reasons in my...

    Battery Charge/Save Buttons

That totally misses the point of how the car actually works. When you're outside of your EV range, the car WILL charge the battery way, way more than half the time whether you like it or not, going round the Hysteresis Loop in SAVE or with no buttons pressed. If the ICE is running, it WILL...

    Increasing/Upgrading - Higher Battery Capacity

Would that be the same salesman who told me that I could charge the battery in my key fob by putting it in the slot?  ;) I really think that most of them don't have a clue...

Ran out of gas but depleted battery got me home

I think the grid capacity depends on your location/country. I think that most places in the UK would be able to accommodate the extra capacity for EV charging with some time of use tariffs taking the edge of the peak. But the population density is quite high here, far higher than in BC or most...

    Increasing/Upgrading - Higher Battery Capacity

But doubling the battery capacity (like Renault did for the ZOE) ups the weight by less than 10%. So although you don't quite get double the range, it's pretty close

Ran out of gas but depleted battery got me home

Electrolysis has been around since the discovery of electricity. I'm not sure how it's magically going to get more efficient - I thought it was pretty close to its theoretical limit anyway. While fuel cells are new, I'm not sure how much more there is to come with their efficiency. And while you...

Ran out of gas but depleted battery got me home

Using hydrogen as an intermediate fuel requires twice the generation capacity that simply using batteries requires. That is the fact that you seem to be ignoring. Who is going to pay for double the extra generation capacity just so that people can use hydrogen instead of batteries? The extra...

    Micro Battery Jump Starter?

Does anyone know how much power/current the 12V needs to supply to "start" the PHEV successfully? I shouldn't imagine it's that high.

Low 12v Battery on New Car

The DC-DC converter only charges the 12V battery when the drive battery is connected. For safety reasons it is usually left unconnected when the vehicle is "off". As mentioned, it should charge once a day if you have a phone connected to the car using the WiFi.

Ran out of gas but depleted battery got me home

It will be interesting watching "global corporations" defying the laws of physics  You say it's a "personal view", but it's just plain facts. Unless my sources have all got it wrong and you can prove my facts are actually incorrect. You'll be saying the Climate Emergency is a "personal...

Ran out of gas but depleted battery got me home

Only where energy is plentiful and cheap - a fuel-cell car is around 40% efficient when you look at energy out of the power station to energy actually driving the car. Compare that to a BEV with 80% efficiency over the same measure. That means you need double the extra generation capacity for a...

2020 built Jan 2021 GSR harsh suspension, any one agree ??

Porsche already makes 2-ton SUVs, which actually handle quite well. And they make a 2-ton BEV, ditto

Did Mitsu confuse "Save" Mode and "Charge" Mode Above 78 mph (125 km/h)?

Have a look at Section H of Richi's FAQs. The rest of it is well worth reading too...

    Decoding the manual

Weird that they specify CVT oil when the PHEV doesn't have a CVT. I don't think there's anything in the electric motors that needs lubrication but reduction gears (isn't the diff separate?), so I'm not sure why it needs special oil or how "dirty" the oil would get. Does anyone know why it needs...

Door locks? ACC beeping? Improve sensor beeps? Reward!

Not sure about the others, but on ours the ACC beeps whenever it "finds" a car and whenever it "loses" a car. You can see a car graphic appearing and disappearing in the central screen whenever this happens

What fuel consumption can I expect on 50mile run on motorway?

@jpalfrey Don't get too hung up on whether to use CHRG or SAVE on a journey. The PHEV has to get its energy mainly from the ICE, and it does this by running in what is effectively CHRG. In SAVE or when the battery is empty, it will run till the range has gone up a bit and then runs in EV till...

What fuel consumption can I expect on 50mile run on motorway?

And still no proof! For proof we need to see actual figures, not theories. How do you know the ICE is more efficient in parallel mode on the highway to series mode around town? Any figures? What are the actual losses in Series and Parallel modes? Any figures? And it certainly isn't basic...

What fuel consumption can I expect on 50mile run on motorway?

I quite agree it might be more socially acceptable to refrain from using an ICE in a built-up area, but that's not my point. No one has produced any figures proving it's more economical. Just a simple "it must be true" doesn't really cut it in scientific circles. I'm not saying it's untrue...

Just got my new 2020 Outlander PHEV. Looking into getting BIGGER tires. Would like some feed back!

Actually it depends on the profile of the tyre. You could in theory fit tyres that are several inches larger in diameter but are higher profile (i.e narrower). That would mess up the gearing but not the clearances. It would also look slightly weird... ;)

Cheap car to give driving lessons

OT, but we used Marmalade for our DDs when they were learners. It just insures a named learner to drive a car that's already insured elsewhere, but it was significantly cheaper when we used it back in 2015-2018 https://www.wearemarmalade.co.uk/
