Drive battery degradation . Houston, do we have a problem?

Wouldn't it be more relevant to look at the cell resistance, I think it is around 1.5 milliOhm on good cells and it would probably only take 1 bad one to stuff things up, as the BMU would probably sense this and limit the current that can be drawn for the whole pack. And the only way it could...

After the engine kicks in, continues to run for no reason

It is normal and was actually the subject of a recall for the earlier cars. The engine would not run long enough and eventually the spark plugs could foul. This was fixed by changing the plugs and updating the software to make the engine run longer.

    Seized rear brake caliper

There is a recall for this here in Australia. It also applies to the normal (not PHEV) Outlanders sold here.

    newbie q - does drive-battery charge also charge non-drive b

Was being sarcastic..... the few Wh saved by charging the aux separately wouldn't make any difference, and yes, as soon as the main battery charges the aux gets 14.4V supplied as well to top it up.

    newbie q - does drive-battery charge also charge non-drive b

It does... The extra range you could get if you kept it charged separately would be measured in inches.....

Very erratic regen behaviour when battery is dead

There is a full recall here in Australia for this problem. It affects not only the PHEV but the other Outlanders as well.

can you force no drive-battery charging while driving?

The torque available from the petrol engine at 4500rpm is pretty much irrelevant, as the electric motors provide most of the torque when travelling in parallel mode at highway speeds and hard acceleration is required. The petrol motor is locked to the front wheels with a gear ratio similar to...

can you force no drive-battery charging while driving?

First of all, it will never charge the drive battery fully using the charge or save mode. If you just drive it with a depleted battery, and not use the charge or save mode, the battery will stay at around 30% capacity. Secondly, I think you worry too much.... Time is also a factor in battery...

    Australians down under

I would say the first two items are a carry-over from other service schedules in from the ICE Outlander. Frequent short runs and stop start city traffic certainly affect the oil in a combustion engine, but I would think not at all if your city driving is mostly electric. Transmission oil? Not...

No.... and I don't think that is in the schedule anyway. According to what is in my book: Coolant - EV cooling system (rear motor) Every 20 years Oil -EV cooling system (front motor) Every 20 years Engine coolant: 96 mths/ 120,000km Transmission oil: 72mths/90,000km

I have had my 36mths service done at a dealership on the Central Coast. $470. They did start out quoting 900 odd $, but halved it when I pointed out that it wasn't a very big service... reckon they still did ok at $470.00. There is nothing in that service that is specific to an EV... basically...

    New phev owner

Your maths is right, your conclusion probably not quite. Your battery took 7.5kWh to recharge, which may be a little bit on the low side from about 30% charge. If you assume 30% is 3.6 kWh, adding the 7.5 give you 11.1 kWh total capacity, well within the ball park of what you can expect, in my...

    Cell smoothing attempt from home

How did you determine that the battery was fully discharged? Did you monitor the pack voltage or look at the cell with the lowest? What voltage is deemed to be fully discharged? Interesting experiment!

It's probably not as simple as that. Firstly, dealer are independent businesses, secondly, Mitsubishi is probably not the most sought after brand dealers are scrambling to get a franchise for, thirdly, some dealers did invest in supporting the PHEV and really it has been a bit of a flop here...

The dealers are seriously trying to rip you off..... I also have an ex fleet one and was initially quoted over $900 for the 24mth one, got it down to $380.00 with another Mitsu dealer, although had to travel 150k round trip. You need to point out what is in the service schedule for that...

Anybody charged the PHEV from 12v to AC Inverter ?

You do realize you're trying to pull in excess of 200A from the 12V battery... it's not going to work well, even if it did, it wouldn't last very long.

Flattened auxiliary battery - any consequences?

Well, I believe the BMU does have a backup battery in it, but I don't know whether that just holds enough charge to enable the aux battery replacement without resetting it. I did notice that my friend's SOH was quite a bit higher than mine last time we checked (about 6 months ago). That was some...

Flattened auxiliary battery - any consequences?

Somewhere in the manual it states that the BMU will lose data (maybe reset), but that won't happen until it is disconnected for longer. My friend did that for a few hours while installing a wiring for a transceiver and it seemed to have no ill effects. As for pricing, after all it is supplied...

    New owner MPG concerns

You could also just not worry about it...... A car that weighs about 2t with a 2l petrol motor will use x liters/100... give or take a few... that's just the way it is....
