Only taken 7kw on overnight charge

The car only uses about 70% of the actual battery capacity, so a full recharge on a new battery would take about 9kWh. The question is whether the owner does a full recharge each day or not. If the car is not driven that much and the battery state of charge is still 40% when the charger is...

"EV System Service Required" after problems with the aux battery

It makes sense in theory but the only point when the aux voltage is low is when you start the car. After that the DC/DC is on so you have at least 14V on the line. When you start the car the current going through the contactor is not that high because nothing is on yet. They may be some in-rush...

"EV System Service Required" after problems with the aux battery

So I started my car one morning, and had a bunch of "service required" messages coming up. EV system, ABS, FCM, ACC and a bunch of other stuff. Knowing the drill I went out and measure the voltage of the aux battery and yup.... 11.2 V I connected the car to a 12V battery charger during the day...

Warning - PHEV System Fault - Power Reduced - Service Required

Yes it's possible... but in that case I suppose there would have been some fault codes recorded? For that matter, that the dashboard shows "System fault" and that the service department didn't find any fault code in the system is rather... odd

Warning - PHEV System Fault - Power Reduced - Service Required

I hope it will work out! If you can, ask them to check the 12V auxiliary battery voltage before you pick the car up. If you get the error message again during the next few days take the car back for a new check, you really shouldn't have this with a brand new car.

Warning - PHEV System Fault - Power Reduced - Service Required

First you shouldn't have this error message if the main drive battery is near empty. Second it shows 6/7 km electric range so it's not even empty. You can get this message if the 12V auxiliary battery is depleted though. But then putting the car in charge mode won't change anything, the 12V...

Lindqvist method : DIY BMU Battery Reset

DC relays are designed to be able to interrupt the rated current without damage. They have a special mechanical design to prevent arching for too long and the contacts are supposed to be able to withstand it. I'd be more concerned about battery degradation after such a procedure because the car...

Cold Weather Performance - North American 2023

It has to do with battery capacity, or to be more precise the ratio between the power you are charging/discharging into the battery and it's capacity. In a 60 kWh battery you have more electrode surface than in a 20 kWh battery, the current will be spread around on a greater surface, and the...

Heated screen (perhaps) but no switch...4H MY17

I have a 2016 Phev with the heated screen. Here are pictures of the button and the wiggly wires in the screen. They only work if the outside temperature is under +8 °C, otherwise they won't turn on.

    End of charge period

It looks like no one on this forum is using this type of charger. I just use the one I got with the car and it works fine. It doesn't do anything smart and doesn't send any notification though.

    BMU Reset

The voltage difference at the end of discharge is normal. Each cell has a slightly different capacity, and they are balanced at the end of charge. This means that it is at the end of discharge that you will see the highest difference in state of charge between the cells. In addition this is the...

How to start up the car in cold conditions without the ICE firing up:

I live in Norway and I have the 2016 model. During the winter I set the AC off and inside temperature to the minimum (15 °C) and the ICE never starts during my daily trips to work. It only starts if I use the accelerator pedal a bit aggressively.

Should I buy a used phev or new (2023)?

I will have to find out the details, the the schedule is definitely different in Europe. We have one service every 12 months / 20000 km, with a more expensive one at 4 years, and a really more expensive one at 160000 km.

Should I buy a used phev or new (2023)?

About the cheap prices.... When I bought mine (a 4 years old model 2016) there were a lot of PHEVs of that age on the market because there is a big and expensive service that must be done at 4 years, and some owners want to get rid of their car before that. I negotiated with the dealer for a...

Issues following 12v Aux Battery replacement.

Did you notice a significance increase of the EV range indicated by the car since you replaced the battery? In that case it's possible that the BMU was reset and it thinks that the battery has a higher capacity than it actually has. The battery gets depleted and disconnects because of low cell...

Shell Recharge Charger for Level 2 charging

Yes you are right. If you have a 50 amp line, it is just the maximum current that the line can safely deliver. The charger will just take the current it needs, as long as it's under the maximum supported by the line.

Shell Recharge Charger for Level 2 charging

Question 1: no there is no risk. As you said yourself the onboard charger limits the power draw itself, even if there is more available on the socket. Question 2: this is normal and due to the manner lithium ion batteries are charged. At the beginning of the charge cycle the charger uses a...

WARNING: Phev 2022 Regen Braking Hopeless

Oh yes that's a good point. And the generator could even be powered from the electric motors, providing some braking power if the battery is full. It's still a very complicated way of avoiding using the brakes though.
