What is normal for a 2018 PHEV with 75,000 miles on it, in the United States

This maybe the finest compliment I have received in my 75 years on planet earth - thank you! 🤩

Engine not driving the wheels directly

So the energy flow to the wheels doesn't go through the battery when in series mode in recent models? 🤔

Engine not driving the wheels directly

The ICE heats the battery by passing the generated electricity through it on its way to the wheels. Once the wheels are being directly driven at higher speeds the energy flow to the battery is reduced significantly, so preventing the direct drive helps keep up battery temperature when ambient is...

Engine not driving the wheels directly

I agree about battery protection but mu point about the "moving chill factor is that as the battery warms the flow of external cold air will cool it faster than it is being heated UNLESS the ICE is being deployed to counteract the effect - simple O-level physics! 😉

Engine not driving the wheels directly

Even if daytime temp is above freezing the battery will be still down below that after standing all night and once moving the "chill factor" from the slip stream will prevent it warming up unless there is a flow of energy from the ICE, which drops off once the wheels are being driven directly...

Battery life span will not be affected by PHEV mode selection?

As I recall from the Leaf fiasco lecture video the figure quoted there was around 2000 complete charge/discharge cycles - which would give at least 7 years for daily charging - again clearly not true in practice as mine is also almost 11 years old. However, it might be the reason why battery...

    Replacing main drive battery

Oh, come on, we've had unusually cold weather in the UK for the last 2 weeks and, if I recall in the 2018 model has the smaller battery. Also the mileage is largely irrelevant to battery age in a hybrid, it is the number of recharges that wears it out. So if most of the driving has been on...

    Battery incorrect readings

So this is the very first time the car has ever been driven? Er, no actually (guess I don't know what I am talking about) - sorry! OK, now we've got that out of the way, try reading Andy's (an over 10 year user like me) reply again and this time understanding it, before pressing the send key...

What is normal for a 2018 PHEV with 75,000 miles on it, in the United States

As always the question is, are you getting those figures on the guessometer before driving or actual miles usage?

What is normal for a 2018 PHEV with 75,000 miles on it, in the United States

Having been brought up on Canvey Island in the Thames Estuary, which was reclaimed with dykes etc. by the Dutch in 16th century, I also have an affinity for the Nederland. 😎 A bit a trivia for you - The Dutch were "paid" by being given a third share in all the land they reclaimed, which means...

What is normal for a 2018 PHEV with 75,000 miles on it, in the United States

Oh dear, here we go again with the range questions. It's as though I'm stuck in a time loop back to 2015 not in 2025. So firstly, what range - that shown on the guessometer after charging up (certainly seems to be what the OP is referring to) or the actual pure EV mileage you can do on a full...

My 2021 PHEV full charge is too low

If only it was a VW - as per Woody Allen's "Sleeper"! 😉

How long can these cars last?

Reverting to the original thread title - I yesterday had a conversation with a a fellow Mitsu owner in Brent Cross's multi-storey car park (Norf Lundun) and was congratulating him on how well his his car looked in comparison to my younger version. This prompted a complaint that he was very...

Burning rubber smell from back of car, while just driving on ECO.

It is true that there has always bee a tendency to produce a burning smell, which has always been put down to the exhaust burning off stuff especially after the car has not been used in ICE mode for some time i.e. there has been a build up, which would normally been burnt off as it formed if the...
