I am in the UK and have a 2015 GX4h (with the handbrake lever and 10 digit WiFi password). I have been using the Android app to pre-heat the car and all was working well. The app I have been using is the one titled "OUTLANDER PHEV MITSUBISHI Remote Control".

Now I have a new phone running Android v8 (old Sony one failed) and the new phone won't connect to the car. I have been through the registration process many times.

I then noticed on the app description that the app does not work with Android v8 BUT if I get my car updated to include the fix for the "third party access" issue I will get a new 14 digit WiFi password and I will be able to connect my phone using the "OUTLANDER PHEV MITSUBISHI Remote Control I" app.

The information on this is at the following link and also in the description for the "OUTLANDER PHEV MITSUBISHI Remote Control" app as below..

"OUTLANDER PHEV MITSUBISHI Remote Control" App does not support Android 8.0. Please confirm "Improvement regarding third party's access to the Mitsubishi Remote Control on the Outlander PHEV" and use "OUTLANDER PHEV MITSUBISI Remote Control I" App.

Having taken my car to the dealer to have this update applied they say there is no fix for this issue yet. When I called Mitsubishi customer services they said there was a fix that the dealer should apply but since I have spoken to the dealer they are not returning my calls!

Does anyone know the latest on this WiFi issue for the older Outlanders and whether a fix is still available? I did read elsewhere that the original fix caused other issues with the car and so they stopped doing it, is this the case?

I have Android 8.1 and the app works fine for me. The only thing under 8.1 I have to do is ensure mobile data is manually switched off.

Thanks for the reply. What version of the car and app are you using? Have you had the fix for the security flaws at the dealer?

No fixes from the dealer. I am using the original app.

Do you have the handbrake lever on your car or the handbrake switch?

I have the model with the handbrake lever so am supposed to use the oldest version of the app which doesn't work with Android 8.

If you have the handbrake switch you use the newer version of the app and this works fine with Android 8.

I have a handbrake lever, the App version I have is this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.inventec.iMobile which is the original app.

My phone has Android 8.1.0.

Works fine as long as I am in WiFi range of the car.

I just managed to get the non-numeric instance of the Outlander remote control (it says it is version A.1.4.0 in the App) on Android working on my new-to-me MY2016 4HS (well, it's a 65 plate but new design so do I call it a MY2016?!?)

I got it working on a tablet on v5 of Android and my phone on v8.1. It didn't initially work but did after I removed all devices (turn ACC on without your foot on the brake, then press lock and unlock 10 times EACH) so that may be an option?

Not to hijack, it does keep prompting to say vehicle software needs updating, in fear I say later. Anyone know if I should? I'm on 0.01E.0.1.8.000

I did this ages ago, I am on 0.01F.0.2.000

Great, thanks. I got scared reading posts from 2014 that said it bricked the car. I'm assuming the software deliver is a bit smoother now and not actually knowing what the benefit of the vehicle software update is I was thinking I'd leave it until i book the car in for some recall work it looks like it needs.

On a related wifi theme. I have just had my phone fail and so have replaced with a new phone, still on Android. However I am struggling to remember how to connect the new phone to use for remote heating etc.
I can get to the right place to connect and have the SSID, but am not sure what to use for a password ?
I have a small card with what I thought was the number but this isn't accepted, and in desperation I have tried the VIN number but where would I find the right number ?
It's cold in the mornings now so could do with sorting this sooner rather then later.

Hey, I've only just got my PHEV so probably wait for a more experienced member to chip in but as i've had recent experience I thought i'd say what I found. You're definitely using the right code on the small card that was in the inside of the manual.

First make sure you have the correct app https://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/en/products/outlander_phev/app/remote/.

If that doesn't work, mine wasn't registering so I did a reset to remove all existing devices (press start without button depressed, press open and close on key 10 times on each key.. Then try registering again and it worked for me, almost like there were too many devices registered.

If that's not it, have you taken the car in for a service/recall work since the remote last worked? I think there's instances of them updating the wifi code to something longer and either not being able to tell the owner what it is, or the code not working anyway.

Thanks Dan

I thought it was the right number. You are probably correct that it doesn't want to connect to a new device as there have probably been a few previous connections including my old phone and the wife and the previous owners etc.

Will try a reset.
