I have unknowingly driven through some tar-like substance which left residue on the RHS sill, front and rear mud flaps and rear underbody aft of the mud flap. I've cleaned everything off with the exception of the surface under the sill. Anyone got experience of removing the sill please? The mudflaps come off really easily and there are 4 Philips screws securing the sill to the body underneath. There seems to be an adhesive strip on the top edge of the sill but I am loath to start prying that apart without some inside track on whether this is the correct approach. Any help/guidance much appreciated. Thanks.

I would be wary, mine got scraped in an minor accident so the bodyshop it went into for repair under insurance removed it repaired and repainted it then refitted it. When I went to collect the car it wasn't tight to the body like before and had a big gap.

They tried refitting it but although they never admitted it I suspect they broke some of the fixing mounts either when they took it off or put it back on.

I rejected it and they had to get a new sill, it took a very long time to arrive from Mitsubishi. Its all OK now and good as new but I have used this place before and they are experiences body repair specialists. If they couldn't take it off/put it back without wrecking it - I am pretty sure I won't be trying myself!!

(ps they got left inside a cubby in the car, lots of little plastic popper things that presumably are part of what holds it on tightly, many were broken so I guess that is inevitable trying to get it off and they needed the new part to replace them)

They may be experienced, but broken plastic fasteners tell another story. Removed properly those are multi-use items.

In theory but only if you can get a square pull on a trim and this a long piece, if your forced to do so at any angle or one part releases suddenly then they will snap easily, they were pathetically small and fragile so I am willing to cut the bodyshop some slack on this having had many battles with car trim myself over the years.

More amusing was the receptionist trying to move my PHEV!

The pushlock buttons are not the problem. As Bob says the top face of the sill is somehow held onto the major bodywork with clips which, from his experience, easily snap. Its not life or death - just means me grovelling underneath with a carefully operated heat gun, soft scraper and then paraffin and rag. Not all together, simultaneously and at the same time - I hasten to add.

Because I take some pride in owning a less than year old vehicle and would rather not have tar caked on the underside. Personal choice.

Hi
The sill covers have both clips and double sided tape.
Take a look at Chapter 51/Side air dam:
