Hi,

Apparently a new windscreen for my Outlander PHEV is over 600 euros and if I understood right the "offer", it is looking over 1000 euros total cost.

Are these price normal ?

What is the risk to use non Official Mitsubishi service, and an equivalent windscreen ? (My PHEV does not have 360 cameras, so I guess there is only the rain and light sensors )

Thanks

ps: I did not even notice any stone hitting the windscreen , and I was driving on highway days before noticing the crack ... I just notice it after leave the car parked in the sun ... so maybe was an old repair from previous owner on my PHEV that got wasted under the sun  .. that pop up 7 months after  .. or a stone few days before that did not make any visible sign until some other condition happen for enlarge the crack

I had my last windscreen changed by a specialist windscreen company and my insurance paid. It only cost me a low excess charge, about £60, and had no effect on my main car insurance excess and 'no claims' record. The specialist used another make of windscreen but I couldn't see the difference and changed over all the lights and rain sensors, etc. Perfect job.

The really stupid part was it was it was failed at the annual MOT safety check because the screen had a crack in what was deemed the visible area, ie within the sweep of the wipers, even though the crack was wholly in the black shaded area that you can't see through!
Same stupid MOT man had failed it the year before for having a bridge toll transponder located behind the rear view mirror in the same black area. This was a BMW main dealer of course. I now use an independent MOT tester who doesn't do repairs so has no money making ideas.

I had mine renewed by a local specialist for around £300 all-in. This also included a seperate guy visting an hour later to re-calibrate the Lane Departure System camera too, it was an aftermarket window, but stamped correctly with E markings and exactly same as original. The originals are not stamped MMC anyway.

Very good service.

The dealer wanted nearer £900. They only sub-out to local fitters anyway. £600 extra was not worth it.

Also worth noting, has anyone noted that the side windows, regardless of which side they are on, are just the same? They are just turned around to fit the correct side - hence the writing on them doesn't match on both sides.

Surely they're not flat glass, do they not have different curvature relevant to the side?

Thanks for the info

I got clarification from my official Mitsubishi service .. and only for the windscreen (material and labour), the asked price is ~5100pln or almost 1200euros ... in my case is around 7% of car value (there is (actually sold few days ago) one PHEV here for sale for just 75k pln) ... to pay here in Poland more then in UK it is an absurd

So ... I will look from some specialized shop on windscreen replacement

Maybe I should also consider to find a non official garage for service my car

PS: This is my first damaged windscreen in "my life" (~300.000 km driven) ... also ... since practically I never had a crash ... in the last ~10y I'm always having just basic insurance for my car .. so this windscreen gotta to be paid from my pocket
