Our car is back at the dealer after a recent bout of warm weather showed that the a/c wasn't managing to cool the air much. After regassing, they've discovered a leak in the condenser radiator. Is there anything I can do to stop this happening again?

Probably not - I've had two condensers go in the last ten years on my Smart Fortwo - I think it's down to poor quality materials. The matrix of the condenser just disintergrates. The first one on my Smart died just after the three year warranty expired. The air con specialist who replaced it (twice) reckons that the quality of the metal used on all condensers - even premium brands like Audi and Merc, is not what it once was. They're probably all made in Condenser City in China.

There is I believe a theory that if the gas/oil is not changed enough the condenser can rot from within - but that wouldn't be an issue on a 3 year old car.
