Music auto playing on bluetooth

Whenever my iphone or Samsung tablet connect via bluetooth, the music player automatically starts up playing the last track.
Unless there hasn't been a track playing previously, then it just plays the first track on the device.
Any ideas on how to stop this?

If you stop the music by holding down the mode button on the steering wheel then the music doesn't start automatically the next time. I use this as a pause/play button.

Select some other sound source? If you had the radio selected for audio, you would not be asking why it played when you turn the car on - if you select the audio source as Bluetooth, it starts playing when you power the car up.
