Hi all

I've had the car for 10 months and love it. Its been faultess.

However tonight on returning home I discovered that pushing the door handle button on the car did not lock the car. Neither did either of the keys. None of the doors/boot are open and the car is switched off. Has anyone experienced this? Ive had to lock the car with the metal key....

Thought I was being stupid as it had worked fine just an hour before.... but trying my spare key proved that I wasn't being daft - or at least I hope I'm not.

Anyone else have this problem?

Cheers

Shouldn't it have dealer maintenance to keep the guaranty alive?

No. This is a common misconception. Under EU block expemption rules, as little by as the manufacturers service schedule is followed and original manufacturer parts used at a VAT registered garage then the warrenty status is kept.

That said, if the car is on finance it could well be a requirement of the finance agreement to have the car serviced by the main dealer so you might be left with no choice anyway.

Yes, for vehicles that do not require specialized equipment and knowledge. But in this case - as for many other hi-tech cars- a non-dealer is unable to follow the schedule, as it involves computer access, software updates, electronic maintenance etc, which non-authorized workshops cannot provide. If a non-Mitsubishi garage wishes to provide the required service, it will have to invest in equipment, factory support and training - by Mitsubishi.
The factory keeps a record of the service, which is submitted by the dealers for guaranty (and research) reasons
Regulations have been overtaken by technology.

I left it a few hours, tried it again, without touching any of the doors, and it worked. Remains to be seen what happens today... will it start playing up again I wonder?
Mitsubishi rescue cover (whatever they are called) are going to call me today, so I'll have a chat with them too...

My leasing company don't normally use main dealerships, and will book the vehicles into local garages, or places like Halfords. But when I booked the service for the PHEV, they said that they would also use a Mitsubishi main dealer for these vehicles. I can fully understand why, I dont think I'd be happy to trust a regular mechanic in Halfords to have the first clue about how to maintain or assess the high voltage EV system in the PHEV, or to have access to any of the specialist equipment required.

I had an issue for a few weeks where the buttons on the doors wouldn't work at home, I had to use the keyfob.

I can only assume there was some kind of local interference.

I find that sometimes the key isn't detected properly when I'm standing beside the driver's door (RHD car) it might be that the receiver is on the other side of the car. I usually just move a bit or turn so that the pocket with the key moves closer to the car and then it works.

On the other hand the car has also told me that it can't lock the car as the key has been detected inside the car when I and the key are both definitely outside.

Most likely cause of this for me is when my mobile is very close to the key (same pocket), or the baby monitor.
Hope it is sorted now

Yes, I frequently get a problem if my phone is in the same pocket as the keys.

Only time I've had a situation where I couldn't lock the car at all, it turned out that a small stone had found its way into the path of the boot closing properly (even though it looked closed!).
