Good evening to this amazing community!
I am in some bother. I have a 2015 Outlander PHEV, in the UK. She’s got around 90k miles on her, and has been struggling over the last 12 months with her 12V battery going flat.
Lately, on the school run, the engine has been cutting out in ICE mode, and ground to a halt. We’ve managed to get her going again, but I’ve noticed that we’ve been getting the “EV System” error displayed, and then having to do a full restart and then getting going again. Charging at home has also been a challenge, where on both the pod point charger, and the 3 pin charger, we get a “Charging interrupted due to system malfunction” error displayed.
I went to a local garage, who wanted £350 to replace the 12V battery (which is 10 years old, like the car), but I couldnt stomach that, so replaced it myself, with the recommended battery I found online (Bosch S4020). Once I got the lead adapters, it went in very well.
This has not fixed the issue, and now, the engine will run intermittently without the EV system fault, but after a few minutes will cut out (even when I put it into Charge Mode).
I purchased an OBD plug in, and I am getting the following faults
P1A51 - BMU issue?
And
P1AC6 - Something to do with elapsed time
I am not a car whizz, I am a cruise ship engineer, so have mechanical theory, but this is alien for me.
I also notice a very audible “judder” when the ICE is running and shuts down, something I’d consider “abnormal”
Ive tried to reset the BMU, with a disconnection of the 12V battery with the granny charger plugged in, followed by a removal of charger and reconnection of 12V, but this has not helped. I have also tried resetting the faults with the OBD, but this has not worked either.
My fear is that the car is not worth more than 5k, thus any extensive repairs will be futile, so unless I can fix it, it may be time for her to head into car heaven.
Your help, guidance, tips are enormously appreciated. I am based in Ringwood, Hampshire, incase anybody is local and can lend a hand!
Thank you
Rob
