I think it will take a long time to recover the £914. I use Octopus Go which only requires a Smart2 meter,  costs 8.5p from 12.30am to 5,30am and 26.7p other times. I didn't have a Smart2 meter for them to read remotely so when I joined I was on a normal tariff for a couple of months until they fitted the new meter. I set the car to charge during off peak and it never takes the allowed 5 hours to fill up, and you can override the timer each time you want to charge in the day rate (it's still cheaper than petrol). The £914 will take a long time to recover with an Outlander at 2.5p saving per kW but it does allow you to charge 2-3x faster (but I've not found it a problem at granny charger rate) and would be useful if you chose a full EV at a later date.
