Good day all,

My outlander is refusing charge from our home charger (which is working fine with Tesla), and also refusing the granny charger (3pin). The charge error states that there was a malfunction.

The car has been experiencing other challenges, such as cutting out completely when under engine propulsion, resulting in the vehicle grinding to a halt. After a few attempts, it will start again.

I bought an OBD2 plug in, and noted the following codes.

P1A51

P1AC6

This morning, I got the engine running, and put the car into charge mode, and cleared the OBD fault codes. P1A51 has not returned following a good run (and I changed the 12V battery); however, P1AC6 returned, only when I tried to plug into the household charger.

I looked at the cell voltages, and observed a delta accross cells greater than 0.2V, which I believe is what is triggering the P1AC6 fault. Total delta is 0.24V.

I also observed that of the 11 Cell Management Units, Module 6 is not registering any voltage, the other 10 units are reading 33.28 +- 0.2V

This leads me to thinking that perhaps I need to smooth the battery cells some how. I was thinking of taking it to a CHADEMO charger and seeing if It would accept the charge, alternatively trying to charge using the ICE, ultimately to see whether the BMU balances the cells through the charge.

I understand there is a voltage smoothing programme on the “MUT-iii” unit, is it worth me buying one of these to attempt to do this? I don’t want to give this to Mitsubishi if it’s something I can do myself.

Your help appreciated.
