I am going to fit a dash cam shortly and need to hardwire it into a switched power feed somewhere near the rear view mirror - I don't want an untidy ciggy lighter plug dangling.
Has anyone got a quick and easy way of making such a connection?

I've fitted a Nextbase 402g. It suckers on to the windscreen, and the lead is run tucked under the headlining, down the A-pillar behind the rubber seal, across under the glove box (tucked in the lower panel) and into the ciggy socket. Very neat, and unobtrusive. Don't forget, if you need to drop the voltage (some work at 5 volts), you'll have to somehow allow for that. The voltage dropper is usually integral with the ciggy plug, so perhaps a hidden socket somewhere?

Same here, fitted in centre and cable tucked up as described - very easy and neat, takes about 2 mins.

My only complaint is that I cannot get a sucker to stick on the 'dotted' area (the 'toll tag area') behind the rear view mirror, so as such I have to mount it lower on the plain glass which is not great.

Current plan is to stick one of these in the area and then sucker onto that (used similar for SatNav before) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-9A00-202-Adhesive-Dash-Disks/dp/B001763SRI

Anyone got any great solution for mounting dash cams higher on that stickered area?

If your cameras are mini or micro SB connection you can get these https://www.joovuu.com/gb/car-accessories-/108-car-camera-hardwire-kit.html or https://www.joovuu.com/gb/accessories/150-hardwire-kit-micro.html

By using these you do not need to go to the ciggy lighter socket, just go straight to the fuse box

I got that kit (free with my dash cam actually) so no need to go via the ciggy lighter. Is the fusebox easily accessible?

Hi,
I bought the hard wire kit for the dashcam I had and got an autoelectricien to fit it for me. He actually wired it to the back of the cig lighter rather than to the fuse box. I also got him to fit a hardwired twin USB feed in there and I use one of the feeds to power my phone.
I really displike trailing cables etc
Kind regards,
Mark
