Cruise control surge

hi guys

I have noticed that recently when i set the cruise control, even with the speed held steady i get a surge of power, the car accelerates by a few miles and then regens to the speed set. E.g set at 40mph. There is a surge to about 43 or so then regens to sub 40mph and then stabilises.
Anybody else experienced this or has thoughts on whats causing this?

Not sure if it's the same thing but I've noticed a drag faster effect with adaptive cruise control:
Following a vehicle at 100 kph with ACC set to 100.
Car in front accelerates to 105
ACC accelerates my car to about 103 (even though ACC set to 100)
Eventually car in front moves beyond ACC detection range and my car drops back to 100.
