Connecting an Inverter to Outlander PHEV to power refrigerator

We recently had a blackout, and my neighbor connected a $100 inverter to the battery terminals of his electric golf cart and was able to power his refrigerator.

Can I tap into the Outlander's 10KW battery and do the same? This is the inverter he used:

Short answer: Most likely NO.

Long answer, you'd need to do a lot of research before you tried something like that.

The PHEV is relatively high voltage, 380V ? And you'd be taking a lot of risks trying to expose a point where you could make that connection.

Little inverters like that are usually for relatively low voltages, e.g. 12|24|36 ...

Alternatively, if you connected an inverter to the tiny little accessory battery, you'd ruin the accessory battery very quickly.

If you have a fridge or freezer that can't handle a minor power outage, you should be looking at a mini generator.

Andy's answer is kind of good, but it is perfectly possible to connect in to the 12V battery without issues, PROVIDING you have the car in READY mode so that the 12V Auxiliary circuit is being fed by the Drive battery AND you don't exceed the power rating of the DC-DC converter that does that.

Alternatively, you can get ChaDemo V2H bi-directional chargers from the likes of seton power that will provide you with high power AC from the Drive battery

I have a feeling that someone has reported that the car goes out of Ready mode fairly quickly if you're not driving it...

Can anyone comment on that?

Rather than using the car as the backup/inverter solution, you could buy a deep-cycle battery, charger and inverter and use that as your back-up.

I might be a little late to the party, but I'm just now researching it myself.
Looking to see if I can use the PHEV as a generator for both home and camping trailer.

Check YouTube for https://www.youtube.com/c/DeathLazerBoy and https://www.youtube.com/user/magmaconstruct1 They have just done what you're looking for. It looks like what Mitsubishi has done, providing a 1500W inverter, is pretty easy, but seems to be the power limit.
