Plug in charger unit has failed after 10 months. Feels like the mains cable connection at the unit has fractured. Weeks to get a replacement under warranty. Always used the rope to take the weight.

If the problem is just the wire, then be sure to fix with crimped lugs like the original. Space is tight inside the control unit and you don't want single strands not being crimped. The unit is IP rated, so be sure to maintain the seals.

It is not easy to open up; it sealed with sticky sealant. There are connections that are soldered to the print that can be torn loose by forcibly opening it. You will be 100% sure to void your guaranty as it cannot be opened without leaving traces.

I have to agree that getting the unit apart will be evident. I actually have an unused unit still in the floor compartment, with an extension cord. My home unit has the modification to the cord length. The AUS version has no attachments to the rear cover, so no worries about PCB damage. Not that much inside for the money charged. Must be a really expensive DC plug on the end of the super flexible cord. Have to admit the DC cord is great, as it does not go hard in cold weather. The wires are starting to show, so there is an issue with how you coil it when you stow it away.
