Some cosmetic upgrades for 2018 Outlander PHEV

Good find, but I'm now intrigued why you were browsing Amazon for some silicon wedding bands ;)

    mystery navigation symbol

You have absolutely no idea about the OP's situation, his mental state, his level of education or even his first language. Is he prone to depression or suicidal thoughts? How does he react to criticism? You have absolutely no idea, but you decide that you know better than him what's best for...

What fuel consumption can I expect on 50mile run on motorway?

Because there's no proof that doing anything different actually improves your fuel economy. Unless you have some?

    MOT brake test

As an aside, how do you think they test all the proper 4x4s on the road?

    Fuel economy on the motorway

I get 35-40mpg on a long run in ours, with ACC set to 70mph. It is very sensitive to speed though: I used to set it at 72mph (which is an actual 70mph on the GPS) and it was noticeably worse. IMHO you can get too hung up on trying to get the best out of the car. TBH I've not noticed a...

    Dealer won't provide battery capacity

To calculate the actual SOH of the pack involves emptying the battery pack so that each of the 80 cells is at its lowest permissible voltage and then seeing how much energy is required to refill each cell to the correct voltage without allowing any balancing. It is an involved process, bypasses...

    Spare Tire Kit

Why would that seem unlikely? When changing wheel sizes, the manufacturer tries to keep the rolling radius the same, altering the width and profile of the various tyres so that they are close. A spacesaver is just a more extreme version of that. The only issue might be if the brake callipers are...

    Spare Tire Kit

Spacesaver tyres are designed to be the same rolling radius as the tyre that they replace even though they're a totally different size, so they shouldn't cause any severe issues. But seeing how some people's cars complain when fitting regular-sized tyres, it might flag up an error

    Check engine lite code p0a45

Some cars seem to be sensitive to tyre sizes, but most are much less picky. I had to replace all 4 tyres a year ago. Back in November I got an irreparable puncture in one tyre after 8,000 miles. I got a new one and have had no problems in 3,500 miles. There are occasional issues with a rear...

Motor cut-out on steep hill climb

You could have 1,000,0000hp electric motors (and a comparable ICE), but that's meaningless if the torque isn't enough to get things moving. Power is meaningless without torque. And there's no point adding more current from the ICE/generator if the existing motors aren't able to handle the...

ICE running - does pressing CHRG do anything?

Thanks for the replies. I’ve never seen a change when engaging CHRG, but they swear that pressing it charges the battery “harder” than it would when the ICE is already charging the battery - and of course they claim it uses more fuel doing so. I’m still thinking that charging is charging and...

ICE running - does pressing CHRG do anything?

I was under the impression that once the ICE was running, the car would be powering the generator and charging the battery - subject to the usual limits of battery level, temperature and throttle position. But I was having a discussion with someone who claims that the engine note drops when they...

    How empty can it go?

Mine shows '---' when there's around 40 miles of petrol range showing. But there is still loads of fuel in the tank when the petrol range gets to zero. When we first got the car, we'd start filling up when the range disappeared, but it would only take 30-35l (in a 45l tank). I find it really...

12V motorcycle lithium battery to replace aux battery?

Am I missing an ironic tone here? You plan to jumpstart the rear hatch so that you don't have to use a jumpstarter for your 12V ;)

12V motorcycle lithium battery to replace aux battery?

I'm part of group who are into engine swaps on MG Midgets. Most swaps include removal of the battery tray to allow room for the OHC engine. Quite a few people use lithium batteries as they're much smaller and can be fitted anywhere and anyway up in a more crowded engine bay. The only problem...

How to figure out how long it takes my car to charge?

The car has an overhead power consumption to run the onboard computers while charging. While the power required is small, charging at less than 1kW means it becomes quite significant, hence the extra time required

    Regenerative Braking

There is no engine braking. The engine never contributes to retardation as it is only ever connected to the wheels above 40mph and it disconnects when the throttle is released or the brakes are pressed. There is only the electrical regen.

    Any generic auxiliary batteries?

It needs a special vented battery as it is deemed to be inside the car. Have a look at Section Z in Richi's FAQ

How to figure out how long it takes my car to charge?

It's quite simple. The car takes roughly 9kWh to charge when it shows empty. Divide 9 by your charging power and you have a rough figure for the number of hours. You need to add a bit as the rate slows near full. We charge at 3.6kW at home, so it takes less than 3 hours. The granny is 2.5kW, so...
