USB Port for media unit - what orientation

Yes, the USB socket is vertical. The plug has the gap on the left, to insert it, so the socket must have the gap on the right (too dark to see).

Where to install the charging station ?

I'd keep the connection inside, away from rain. For dual purpose (external) use, get a longer cable.

Best EV Estimate and what was you doing to get it ..?

I have a MY19 and got it in November. The highest EV range I’ve seen has been 26miles and lowest only 14miles, after overnight charging. Maybe the newer models calculate range using a different algorithm? The predicted range does seem to be fairly accurate, though. I’m hoping for more in the...

    Long Distance MPG

Sounds very familiar, mine is MY19, too. 7litres seems a large margin in a 45litre tank. I think my other vehicle stops estimating range at about 5litres (in an 80litre tank). I suppose that they feel that people may take it to the last drop, given encouragement. I tend to add 20 litres once...

    Long Distance MPG

Most I have put in mine was 38 litres. Might have been able to squeeze another litre but did not bother. Range at the time was ----.

    Long Distance MPG

I don’t know how quickly or badly petrol ages but have noticed a difference in smell and difficulty starting the mower when using fuel left from the previous season. If you have noticed a lack of power, which would appear possible, I’d have thought it better to keep fuel fresh and get better mpg...

    Long Distance MPG

It's not so much the (incremental) weight of the extra fuel you might add, but the age of it that matters. You don't want it going stale so you want to keep it fresh by putting less in.

    Long Distance MPG

The bonus for using the half way mark on the Outlander is that it’s clearly marked. Also, you don’t need to fill to the brim if you’re not using much petrol but only ahead of a long trip. Similarly, you don’t need to risk inconvenience (running out or being fleeced) by running to a low point...

    Long Distance MPG

For measuring fuel consumption, I don't mess with filling to full. Instead I use the half full mark on the fuel gauge. I note the distance to the nearest 5miles as I pass the half-way mark and always fill a whole number of litres (easier to remember).

    Trip meter set up

I think the electric consumption will vary significantly through the year, being the worst in winter. My car’s display suggests about 2miles/kWh at the moment (it varies). I agree that stated mpg figures ignore the electric contribution, making them completely meaningless. If I assume 2miles/kWh...

    Trip meter set up

Are the miles imperial or US miles? I wouldn't trust the accuracy, anyway, but use it a a guide for comparison. There are too many variables to determine mpg (or m/kWh) without making assumptions. You can measure the total distance travelled and the number of kWh and gallons added during that...

    Choices for next car

Surely, even the previous model does not have sunroof? HS has all the 'safety toys' 5 HS has better sound system and leather (some coloured) If the current engine is good enough, I'd go for the extra luxury and toys. Otherwise consider who is going to pay for fuel.

    Charging Question

I believe that all rapid (DC) chargers will have a tethered (CHAdeMO) plug attached to them in the UK. Fast (AC) chargers may not, so you’ll need a ‘Mode3’ cable with a type1 plug. It only needs to be 16A cable for the Outlander, so you can get them for a third of the price Mitsubishi charge for...

What OBD II device is best for use with Watchdog?

I started with iCarSoft i620 (I think) but had to remove and replace it to get the thing started each time Now using Vgate iCar Pro BLE 4.0 and that's working fine. Both were around £40. You can buy much cheaper ones, but they may not work very well if at all.

What kind of charging infrastructure is required?

Do you need to be a member of anything to use a Lidl charge point?

How to quick launch an outlander PHEV

Somehow, I don't think this is what they had in mind when they named the button "CHARGE".

What kind of charging infrastructure is required?

I think the distribution of public charge points will be influenced by where it’s convenient or economical to place them, rather than where they may be needed. (7kWh) Home charge points could solve the majority of the demand fairly easily but I see little financial incentive for a provider to...

What kind of charging infrastructure is required?

If most charging is done overnight, as I suspect it will, EVs will present an opportunity to absorb off-peak power and could be incentivised to do that. V2G balancing would be icing on the cake, but why not?

What kind of charging infrastructure is required?

I put off buying an EV because I felt that the UK infrastructure for recharging did not fit my requirements but I’ve since come to realise that I’m most unlikely to charge my PHEV away from home because of the inconvenience of diversions and delays, and also the pricing. A PHEV allows you the...

    PHEV Watchdog for all.

Hi I’ve only just got my Outlander, so am new to this Watchdog and ODB stuff. I bought an iCarsoft i620 Bluetooth dongle/device but do not seem to be getting a consistent connection into the ODB socket. I believe the car needs to be ‘ON’ before anything will happen? I find that I need to wriggle...
