Buying a 2018 car ... is the 2.4 worth the extra

I guess few people can answer this because they need to have owned both and the 2.4l version has only been available a few months. However, I thought the premium worth while and preferred it to an earlier model that enjoyed zero road tax. If cost is the driving factor, it may be cheaper to use...

    New PHEV owner

I’d suggest that you simply set off, drive, and enjoy it. The Mitsubishi team has designed the control system to be as economical as possible, even its “raw” state. You can apply the refinements later, as you discover them. I don’t think they make a huge difference, anyway. There’s no need to...

    Airport Parking

That’s a very good point, assuming that power is taken from the 12V battery. I have mine set and it’d be easy to forget when routine is changed. Something took the battery down and I’d be more interested in determining what that was (the cause) rather than how to perform a jump start.

    Potential New Owner Questions

If you are trying to minimise the cost of ownership, or even cost per mile, I’m sure there are much cheaper solutions than a PHEV but I’m not sure how BIK would skew the calculations as it did not apply to me. Try not to be influenced by high mpg figures as they are meaningless. If you keep...

What should I do on a motorway for max MPG

That’s much what I’d expect. Never using the plug-in turns your vehicle into a pure hybrid and would provide a true measure of how the ICE element performs. Once you supplement fuel by adding electricity there has to be an assumption regarding the contributions made by that and the petrol. I...

What should I do on a motorway for max MPG

I’d suggest putting it into “Save” but, if the remaining ‘E’miles is less than the distance planned to be completed after leaving the motorway, “Charge”. I’d also use ECO and regenerative braking. Do you have any idea of your ‘raw’ mpg? I reckon mine is around 30mpg.

    USB socket turns off

I imagine that they assume you'll be taking your phone with you when you leave. I've not tested this, but the 12V socket in the rear (boot) may stay live. You could put a USB adaptor into that if it does (and conceal the phone at the same time.

    Why not have “Voices”?

What’s the “Charge” button (new models have “Sport”)? Does it help you go faster? As a lad I used to cycle in rural Lincolnshire. You could ride all day without meeting traffic. On Sunday morning, whilst out training, I was followed by a police car that had a loudspeaker in the grille. I was...

Any queries or suggestions of Mitsubishi Japan's engineers?

I’d rather ask that all settings remain sticky (as they were, just before switching off). There could be an alternative “reset all” function to return them to Mitsubishi’s preferred initial state instead of the last one. Maybe a double-tap of the “power” button to achieve the alternative. I find...

Would this work? Solar/wind to UPS, UPS to PHEV ?

Yes, it “could” work but I don’t think it would be cheap to do or very effective. I’d not noticed the 110V supply and had also overlooked the possibility of a 6A charger. That solution would take a long time to charge the PHEV, though, you still need around 10kWh to refill the PHEV from empty...

Would this work? Solar/wind to UPS, UPS to PHEV ?

No. You'd wreck the UPS. Your charger requires over 2kW and well beyond what a UPS is likely to cope with. The capacity of the battery store will be insufficient to satisfy that of the PHEV.

    Why not have “Voices”?

This may seem a “Whacky” idea, but why not enable the use of different sounds for the AVAS to use? Having a silent car and making it noisy so that others can hear you seems odd but perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised as the same thing is done with digital cameras and phones. We are expected to...

    Cost of a home charge?

The dedicated (wall) charger will charge faster than the household 'brick'. The Chargemaster may be able to deliver up to 32A but the car will only accept 16A. That's still one and a half times faster than through the 'brick', though (which only supplies up to 10A). Regarding your household...

    First Poll for MMC Japan

Maybe better to have the option to show just kWh consumed. Else you need to put in the cost of each top-up. What do you do if you recharge at a remote charge point (all charge differently)? I think there should be something for you to enter the price of petrol put in, too. Then you could...

    Cost of a home charge?

The car may tell you how much it's costing you to charge. On MY19 (earlier ones may be different): Touch the "Charging Cost" button to get the cost of charges completed by month. You need to have entered the price you're paying for electricity (I put 10p/kWh so that I can get a ready...

    Cost of a home charge?

I think you are mis-measuring something. The most I have been able to 'pump' into MY19 model has been 11kWh, costing around £1.50. Although the capacity is 14kWh, the management system prevents you from consuming all of that.

    Alexa, PHEV and Remote Start

I'd be interested, but keep it basic/simple. I tripped at the first step (Rooted Android). I find my Android connection very flaky. It has worked but fails most of the time.

    Mpg calculation

Hybrid car consumption figures seem to be all “smoke ‘n mirrors”. As far as I’m concerned the only true figure you can use is the combined cost of the energy used for each mile completed (about 12.5p/mile in my case). Your figures suggest that you travelled 6miles on electricity produced by...

    mpg on long trips

I’ve only had my (MY19) three months but am making a regular record of electricity and fuel consumed. I note the anticipated electric range when fully charged and use that to deduce the EV contribution. The range has been as high as 26miles but has fallen to only 14miles when cold. I’m...

    Chargig from Low Current Supply

I am interested that you mention charging from solar. I was not aware that it was possible. Do you know how? As far as mains charging is concerned, I'm sure you could plug the generic (EVSE) 'brick' charger in to recharge. The manual outlaws the use of "extensions" but an adaptor may be...
