Buying a relatively new Outlander PHEV (UK)

The age of a second hand car is important if you want to avoid road tax and the more recent high spec cars will incur quite a bit in the second to fifth year. If register before Aug 2018 (I think) there's no tax. But the government needs it and you can afford it. Cheapest motoring is probably...

Outlander PHEV deal too good to be true?

I think it's true. If not, you may have a Pumpkin on the drive when you wake up!

    New Owner Questions

I suspect that there is some algorithm trying to protect things by being overly cautious in charging and adjusting the rate as it establishes all the parameters that are important to it.

Outlander PHEV's 1500W Inverter: Pure Sine Wave!

I'm sure you could put an inverter across the auxiliary battery and it would "work". BUT A 1200W inverter will draw 100A and 2400W one, 200A (keeping the arithmetic simple). You'd need a similar fuse and some hefty wires, too. A problem will arise, I fear, if you consume more than half the...

    Best overnight charge

The range meter is often referred to as a 'Guessometer' because of its inaccuracy. Part of its calculation includes whether you have the heating or air/con on, which makes a big difference and varies according to the weather. You can learn a lot about driving conditions and their effect on...

Do not be scared of using that charge button.

I think any difference between letting the 'car brains' do the work and trying to manage it myself will be marginal. If I could manage it well, it ought to be better because I know the nature of what is ahead and the car does not. Has anyone got any credible evidence that taking control yourself...

    Outdoor charging solution

The 'brick' should not dangle on its cord, so needs to be supported somehow. You could strap it to a wall in a way that is difficult to remove. Plan 'B' would be to use a padlock around the cable to fix it to a cleat on a wall. That way it'd be easier to take the 'brick' with you. I've not...

Has anyone installed a driver's seat memory switch?

There must be two end stops. If there are only two drivers, see if you can move the end stops to describe each position. Of course, that would also limit any adjustment to those positions, so set them a little beyond each extreme, then nudge back after it's moved to the other position. The...

    Long Distance MPG

I've gone until it refuses to provide a "miles remaining" but only put in 39litres. I fill 'til the pump stops, then continue to a whole number of litres, so not to the brim. Last time it was showing empty, I added 25litres and it took the gauge to 3/4. I always add easy amounts to remember, to...

    Long Distance MPG

You could always carry a jerry can in the back (20l extra).

    calling on 2019 owners

One thing that the PHEV teaches you, if you monitor the guessometer, is the impact that heating or air/con has on range. I'm not going to forego comfort for economy so it's something I simply live with. I suppose I ought to try and determine the accuracy of the forecast range (probably easier in...

    Stolen Charger

Life's too short for worrying. I'd just let it get tatty and looking 'unloved'. I can't think why they'd bother to nick even a good one (where would they sell it, for how much). Be grateful that they left the car! :o

We all buy for different reasons. I know someone who chose based on colour! I bought mine to experience what EVs can do.

    calling on 2019 owners

My MY19 is now a year old. It started at 44.3Ah capacity and is now 38Ah. The stated range used to be 26miles (heating on) but is now only 16miles (26 without heating). I don't think these results will be peculiar to Mitsubishi. I expect all EVs to be similarly affected. I didn't buy mine to...

Outlander PHEV's 1500W Inverter: Pure Sine Wave!

As I don't have the inverter, sadly, I'm not likely to see why. The little 12V battery would not have enough oomph (power) to drive an inverter, so the source is bound to be the main battery.

    pre-heating vs pre-defrosting

I think it's been corrected on newer models, although there is a warning that times may be taken from a connected phone, if there is one (I think).

    pre-heating vs pre-defrosting

I'm not sure what the power consumption is in each mode but, in heating, I'm pretty sure it's more than that provided by the standard home charger. So I think there will be an element of contribution from the battery.

    pre-heating vs pre-defrosting

Many thanks indeed. I think that makes sense: You can only control one of the effects (Cool/Heat/Demist). The effect is not controlled by temperature.

    pre-heating vs pre-defrosting

Thanks for the reply. The term 'A/C' is ambiguous because it could refer to Heating/Cooling (as I think it does elsewhere) but I, too, assume it may just mean cooling. I thought I had set it for 10min of screen demist (electric heated screen) and 20min of heating but I'm now thinking that I...
