Save Mode - Does it charge?

Continuous short cycles of the ICE is not efficient. Certainly use SAVE to attack the hills, but otherwise run the battery down to 10%, then run the ICE continuously in CHRG for 20 miles, then run EV down to 10% again, repeat as necessary.

    Rear Suspension Failure

I've never heard of suspension imbalance before, can someone explain please?

First mods from new PHEV driver

The existing wiring for the CHRG button frustratingly does already go up behind the speedo according to the wiring diagrams,, but even with a colour code it will be hard to find it.

    New owner

There have been posts about the brake pads sticking, making a clunk when they un-stick. Also that the associated Recall doesn't seem to have fixed it?

Isn't there supposed to be a man with a red flag walking in front ?

    Number Plate Light Fuse

On old cars (any make), lighting problems are often due to poor earthing due to corrosion, not lack of volts.

Many of the plugs on the blank buttons are 4 pin, that's 12v and earth for the led illumination, and two wires for the momentary-make when you press the button. So take the plug off a blank 4 pin button for a function you will never add to the car, ideally one in or close to where you want your...

    future purchase

Recently I did buy a dead Yazaki granny charger with a view to repairing it, but this one was definitely dead, not the usual broken input cable, or crushed output cable. Despite rigorous quality control, any electronic component will have a few examples that fail after time, but most will go on...

Wi-fi issues can’t find the signal in my Wireless settings

If Mitsu say it's all working you don't need to trace the wires back to the battery? Didn't they demonstrate it working to you before you handed over the money? But if you don't believe them then unplug and measure the volts on the plug, a basic Digital Volt Meter costs about 5 pounds or...

First mods from new PHEV driver

Moved lots of my buttons around, a little filing of the lugs and they pop straight in. I bought a button from a breakers yard and used it to add a second CHRG button:

    forgive an ignorant quesion

The ICE has poor mpg when warming up, so my thought is that SAVE cycles the ICE on/off/on/off, so not that efficient. I prefer to run EV to 5 miles left, then CHRG up to say 15 miles range, then run EV again, etc. But I also try to use EV in town and B roads, and CHRG at 50 to 60 mph on A...

    Hybrid fault

Just to clear up a few points. You say you're driving via the generator. Do you mean Regeneration from the EV motors? The generator is run by the petrol engine (ICE) Do the SAVE and CHRG messages come up on the dash when you hit those buttons? Is the fuel gauge indicating the presence of fuel...

Milage on ev and milage on petrol

Even easier, I've remembered that on my 2014 one of the many info displays shows AVG XX.X mpg

The PHEV Watchdog OBD2 app will tell you mpg.

out of gas and can't open lid....help!

Ah, you didn't say that the release lever didn't work, sent us on a bit of a goose chase....... Too late now, but I would guess that removing the inside trim on that side would give you access to the release mechanism.

What to look for when buying a used PHEV.

Check for the "charger", jack, tyre repair kit and compressor, under the carpet at the back of the luggage area. Tyres aren't cheap so check condition. You need an ODB app like Watchdog to get an idea of battery condition. But fully charged the blue bar on the dash should be to the top, and...

out of gas and can't open lid....help!

Hopefully your wife has made it home! According to my Owner's Manual, "Fuel System Service Required" entails a visit to a Mitsu dealer - very helpful. But chafed wiring is a common cause of this message on other Mitsu vehicles. Mercin?? Beats me. But I guess he means on Left Hand Drive...

    An interesting and perceptive post.

    Gas Use

35mpg is on the low side for modes involving the ICE, but you should be able to go 20 miles on electric without the ICE kicking in. Unless you have SAVE or CHRG on, or have an early model that gets aircon and heating from the ICE, or are flooring the accelerator so that the ECO dial goes past...
