To Eco or to not Eco - that's the question!

I'm not sure that's true. If I don't have the heater controls set to minimum (15°C) and the outside temperature is sufficiently cold, the engine will start as soon as the car is switched on, irrespective of the ECO setting. ECO definitely changes the response of the accelerator, so you have to...

Mitsubishi GB dealers listed by service stamp number

I bought mine from Brayleys, Oxford (0432) - they no longer sell Mitsubishis (now Kia), but they still do servicing.

    Charging at home questions

Mine is simply plugged into the 3-pin socket on the garage wall. I don't have the heating on a timer (I've no commute, so my car usage is less regular) but when I've started the heating manually from the app, the charger that was previously flashing its 'completed' signal reverts to solid green.

    Charging at home questions

One advantage of leaving the PHEV plugged in is that if you use the electric heating* to warm the car before setting off, it will partly offset the drain on the battery leaving you with a bit more charge for driving with. * not available on all models

    mpg on long trips

Thanks STS134. I'm think we can all agree that if you're looking for an efficient long distance 90 mph cruiser, the PHEV ain't it (but I'm not sure that any 4x4 SUV will do a lot better). It's very difficult (that means "I don't know how" :) ) to find fuel economy figures for any car at...

    mpg on long trips

I don't see why the difference would be "considerable". A litre of petrol produces ~10 kWh of energy when fully combusted, so the only way to obtain less usable energy per litre would be to throw some of the petrol out of the exhaust or produce substantially more waste heat. I'm not arguing...

    mpg on long trips

[sigh] Okay, then insert the word 'almost' before 'free electricity' in my post. Does it change the logic in any way whatsoever? No. So stop being unnecessarily pedantic and answer the implied question. If there's almost free electricity available, why wouldn't Mitsubishi engineers have...

    mpg on long trips

If there were modes in which 'free' electricity could be harvested from the engine, I would expect the Mitsubishi engineers to be taking advantage of them already.

    Electrical Usage

A good rule of thumb is that every extra penny spent on electricity for recharging saves 3p at the pump. So increased 'leccy' bills are to be welcomed :). PS The car keeps track of all the electricity it consumes (daily for the last 30 recharges and then monthly for the last year).

    Risky decision or not?

I think the power drain from heated seat or rear window is relatively small. Electric pre-heating (not available on all models) drops the battery by about 1 notch on the display.

    mpg on long trips

As with any type of fuel usage in any type of vehicle it depends :) - mainly on how fast you drive and how much up and down is involved. But on a 200 mile trip mainly on motorway and starting with a fully charged battery, I think 40 mpg would be reasonable (motorway cruising starting from an...

    First Poll for MMC Japan

MPG above 99 is already displayed on post-facelift models. It's still limited to 999, though :).

    Risky decision or not?

You could have reduced the gamble by getting a report on battery state (good practice for anyone contemplating a second hand PHEV), but I agree with the other posts, you should be fine.

    Best extended warranty?

Speaking as an actuary working in insurance for 25 years of my career, the first rule (for customers) is: "never insure for a risk you can afford to bear yourself". Insurance companies (and that includes extended warranties) are in business to make a profit. The cost of taking out such...

    Poor Ev range

That may well be the case in the Netherlands. I see 15 miles at the moment because the guessometer has 'learnt' that I have to traverse numerous hills on my local journeys.

2019 Outlander PHEV reviews and what we know

Not a review, but a reliability survey (not scientific, but based on responses from 18,000 readers) of EVs. The PHEV comes in third place with 97.7%, beaten only by the Yaris and the Leaf. The Tesla S scores only 50% (ouch!)...

    Returning to a PHEV - anyone with a MY 2019 who had a 2015?

I can't be certain about the current model, but on my 'facelift' version, the 'camera' button on the steering wheel toggles between front, rear and side views and doesn't require R to be selected. I use it frequently for nose-in parking.

    Socket or tethered charger?

I'd love to know where such charging points are. Here in the SE of England all the public points I see are either in expensive car parks (e.g. stations) and/or require a monthly fee to use (which makes them prohibitive for occasional users such as me). I'm aware that some cities have (had?)...

Any queries or suggestions of Mitsubishi Japan's engineers?

Does the forum software support polls? If so, when we have 'a little list', a poll might be useful to give the Mitsubishi engineers a feel for how widespread demand for a particular feature might be from vehicle owners (no doubt they carry out some market research before committing to a...
